Tata Motors has launched the Aeris sedan at a starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh, ex-showroom. It replaces the Tigor and arrives on a new platform, with a feature set that sits noticeably above what this price band has offered before.

The Aeris does not ask buyers to compromise on technology to get into a sedan. Here are the five features on the Aeris that make the strongest case for it.

Ultra View 26.03cm HD Touchscreen and 12.7cm Digital Island Cluster

The Aeris gets a 26.03cm HD touchscreen from the Creative variant onwards, paired with a digital instrument cluster. The screen is larger than what is typically offered in this segment, while the floating design keeps the dashboard layout clean.

It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from the Pure+ variant onwards. The touchscreen brings infotainment and connected features into one large display, while the 12.7cm digital island cluster presents key driving information in front of the driver.

419-Litre Boot Space

The Aeris offers 419 litres of boot space on petrol variants, which is among the larger figures in the compact sedan segment. The Maruti Dzire offers 382 litres, while the Honda Amaze offers 416 litres.

The boot also gets a flat floor, while the CNG variants use twin cylinders positioned beneath the boot floor to retain usable luggage space. This makes the Aeris's 419-litre petrol boot a useful feature for everyday use and longer trips. The CNG boot space stands at a reduced capacity of 227 litres.

Direct-Start Twin-Cylinder CNG with 70-Litre Tank

The Aeris CNG uses a twin-cylinder setup, with both cylinders positioned beneath the boot floor. The CNG tank has a water capacity of 70 litres, while the car also retains a 35-litre petrol tank.

More practically, the Aeris starts directly in CNG mode without needing to fire up on petrol first and then switch over. Tata also lists leak detection and thermal incident protection as part of the iCNG setup, along with a fire protection device and materials designed to prevent gas leakage.

Integrated Dashcam with DVR

The Accomplished trim includes a built-in dashcam with DVR recording, which is exclusive to the Aeris at this price point. No rival in the compact sedan space offers this as a factory feature, and most buyers who want one end up buying a separate unit and running a cable to the power socket.

The feature can be useful for recording incidents on the road, particularly in busy traffic or during parking manoeuvres. It also keeps the setup more neatly integrated into the dashboard area.

360-Degree SVS HD Camera with 2D and 3D Views

The 360-degree surround view system on the Aeris is available from Creative upwards and offers both 2D and 3D viewing modes with multiple angles. This is the kind of system that used to appear only on cars priced well above Rs 10 lakh, and having it from Rs 7.49 lakh is a meaningful step for the segment.

The multiple view modes mean the driver can switch between a top-down birds-eye view and a closer 3D representation depending on what the situation calls for. It is paired with the Aeris's other parking assistance features, including an HD reverse parking camera.
