Nissan Tekton: What to Expect Before its Debut Tomorrow?

Nissan is all set to unveil the all-new Tekton, a midsize SUV, tomorrrow, July 9.

The Tekton is Nissan's big chance to make a strong comeback in one of the country's most competitive segments, three years after they discontinued the Kicks.

Built on the same platform as the new Renault Duster, here's everything you can expect from the Tekton before its official debut.

A Baby Patrol?

From the teasers and spy shots we've seen, the Tekton will have a commanding road presence. It is being nicknamed the "Baby Patrol" thanks to its design inspirations from Nissan's larger, rugged Patrol SUV.

The front end stands out with a wide grille featuring horizontal slats, connected LED daytime running lights with a striking red accent, and sleek LED headlights. The tall bonnet carries "Tekton" lettering, while the chunky bumpers and silver skid plates add to the rugged appeal.

On the sides, it could get a squared-off, upright design with thick body cladding, roof rails, and stylish dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear end will feature connected C-shaped LED taillights, a sharp integrated spoiler, and prominent "Tekton" badging on the tailgate.

Features and Safety

Nissan is expected to load the Tekton with features to stand out in this crowded market.

Highlights may include a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, and rain-sensing wipers.

On the safety side, a Level-2 ADAS suite, 360-degree camera, six airbags, ESP, and parking sensors are on the cards.

Powertrains Shared with the Duster

The Tekton will be offered with two petrol powertrains on launch.

A 1.0-litre MPFi turbo-petrol engine producing around 100 bhp and 166 Nm of torque will be the entry-level offering, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The more powerful 1.3-litre turbo GDi petrol, delivering about 160 bhp and 280 Nm torque, will be available with both 6-speed manual and automatic (DCT) options.

A strong hybrid could join the lineup later for better fuel efficiency.

Pricing and Rivals

The Nissan Tekton to be priced between Rs 10 lakh to 20 lakh (ex-showroom), making it competitive against rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Tata Sierra, and Maruti Victoris.

It will be produced at the Renault-Nissan plant in Chennai, which is good news for both local buyers and potential exports.

Why the Tekton Matters for Nissan

After having focused on smaller cars like the Magnite over the past few years, Nissan is returning seriously to the midsize SUV space with the Tekton.

The brand has not tasted the desired success in this segment, as both the Terrano and the Kicks did not find too many takers. Hence, Nissan must be counting on the Tekton to brand's fortunes in India.

With its Patrol-inspired looks, potentially solid features, and shared but proven mechanicals from the Duster, it has the ingredients to do well, given the pricing is sharp and the overall package feels fresh.

Complete details about the SUV should be revealed during the world premiere tomorrow.
