Renault Duster To Get New Affordable Automatic Variants

Renault India is all set to expand the powertrain range for the new Duster, with new automatic variants are expected to be introduced below the existing 1.3 litre turbo petrol DCT variants.

Stephane Deblaise, CEO of Renault Group India, speaking to Autocar India, confirmed the same:

“Ever since we launched the car, there are questions from customers about it, and yes, we think there is a kind of gap between the entry versions in the manual 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and the first version we have in automatic, so we will have more affordable automatic versions.”

The Automatic models are expected to be offered in lower trims.

At present, the entry-level automatic option in the Duster line-up is the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol Evolution model with the 6-speed DCT, costing Rs 14.49 lakh - a Rs 1 lakh premium over the flagship 1.0-litre manual that costs Rs 13.49 lakh.

Additionally, Renault is also considering offering the 1.0-litre turbo engine with an automatic transmission. But, it remains to be seen what type of automatic will be used, as a CVT and AMT are reportedly not under consideration.

Renault also plans to introduce a powerful strong hybrid version, which is expected to arrive around Diwali this year.

The Duster is currently priced ranging from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
