Maruti Leads Mahindra And Tata In March Car Sales

Note- Numbers are taken form Vahan Portal and are accurate as of 31st March 2026

Maruti

Maruti kicked off 2026 like a rocket with almost 1,97,000 units in January, but February brought the usual post-festive reality check, sales crashed over 32% to 1,32,431. March showed a small bounce back to 1,38,353, painting a more realistic picture

They remain the undisputed and with launch of Brezza facelift and 3 row Grand Vitara this number will get even better.

Tata

Tata started the year strong at 55,503 units in January, slipped to 50,548 in February, then gently climbed back to 52,153 in March. Expect the Sierra numbers to add even more to their monthly sales numbers in near future.

Mahindra

Mahindra opened with a solid 59,951 units in January, then dropped 15% to 50,830 in February before basically flatlining at 51,028 in March. They recently re launched the Batman Edition BE 6 and are planning to release more affordable BE range in near future. 

Hyundai

Hyundai had a good January (63,644 units) before February sliced it by a third to 42,661, and March stayed almost flat at 42,246. That gap stings, but they’re not sitting still. The updated Exter that just launched mid-March is getting decent early buzz, and the Creta EV plus Verna facelift are lined up later this year.

Kia

Kia did 30,483 in January, fell 17% to 25,392 in February, then recovered nicely to 26,430 in March. They already refreshed the Seltos earlier in the year, and the Syros EV is on the way

Toyota

Toyota posted 34,975 in January, dropped sharply to 25,397 in February, and slid further to 23,833 in March. 

It’s been a tough quarter on paper. But the Urban Cruiser Ebella EV, basically the e Vitara’s Toyota twin, is expected to get its price reveal any moment now, complete with strong hybrid and EV options plus Toyota’s famous reliability pitch. 

Skoda-VW

Skoda Volkswagen group moved 10,084 units in January, fell 21% to 7,909 in February, then recovered slightly to 8,271 in March. Nothing dramatic, but the timing of the new Skoda Kushaq facelift, launched just days ago, and the Taigun facelift coming in April feels perfectly timed to ride the recovery wave. 

VW may be planning to launch a Kylaq rival to help their sales a bit

Honda

Honda went from 5,841 in January to 4,682 in February, almost 20% down, before climbing back to 4,975 in March. Small numbers, but the upward tick in March is encouraging. The City facelift chatter has been doing the rounds, and Honda is quietly working on hybrids and EVs for the next 12 to 18 months. 

They also recently axed their EV program entirely bar the alpha EV SUV.

Renault

Renault dropped hard from 4,807 in January to 3,222 in February, 33% down, before inching up to 3,403 in March. The real story, though, is the all-new Duster that finally returned to showrooms in mid-March after years of waiting.  We expect the numbers from Duster to boost these numbers considerably in near future

Nissan had the wildest ride, 2,454 in January, down to 1,697 in February, then a massive 43% jump to 2,427 in March. The recently launched Gravite and upcoming Tekton will likely increase their footprint in near future

Stellantis

Stellantis had a difficult quarter, starting with 1,203 units in January before sliding to 796 in February and further down to 690 in March. The consistent decline shows the tough time both Jeep and Citroën are facing in a highly competitive market. Jeep’s Meridian received a 2026 update with improved second-row comfort, while Citroën continues to push its C3 range and Basalt coupe.

Isuzu

Isuzu remains a niche player with very small volumes 54 units in January, dipping to 44 in February, before bouncing back to 71 in March.
