BMW X1 LWB Launched at Rs 49.90 Lakh, Gets 108mm Longer Wheelbase and New Features

BMW has launched the X1 Long Wheelbase in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 49.90 lakh. Built at BMW Group's Chennai plant, it comes as a single variant: the X1 sDrive18Li M Sport.

The pricing is worth noting upfront. At Rs 49.90 lakh, this LWB is around Rs 1 lakh less than the standard X1, which starts from Rs 50.90 lakh.

Buyers get a bigger car at a lower entry point, though the regular X1 still offers a diesel variant which the LWB does not.

Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, put it plainly:

“In a market where customers are no longer willing to compromise between luxury, technology and performance, the new BMW X1 Long Wheelbase is the SUV where the head and heart truly agree.”

What Changed Over the Standard X1

The U11 X1 in India measures 4,500 mm in length with a 2,692 mm wheelbase. The LWB grows to 4,616 mm and 2,800 mm, a 108 mm stretch that feeds almost entirely into rear cabin space.

BMW claims rear legroom improves by 150 mm and kneeroom by 109 mm over the standard car. Rear seat cushioning is extended by 15 mm and the backrest reclines up to 28.5 degrees.

The LWB also gets Adaptive LED headlights with cornering function and Comfort Access 2.0 with Digital Key Plus, neither of which are on the standard India-spec X1. The Digital Key unlocks and starts the car via phone or smartwatch without needing to touch the door handle.

Exterior

The LWB carries the same upright kidney grille as the standard X1. From the side, the longer silhouette does not look stretched, helped by a clean roofline, Aluminium Satinated roof rails, and squared-off wheel arches housing 18-inch M light alloy wheels in Bicolour finish.

The rear is the strongest angle, with wide 3D-sculpted LED lamps and a full-width diffuser. Colours are Night Dusk Blue, Skyscraper Grey, Carbon Black, and Mineral White, all metallic.

Interior

Electrically adjustable sport seats with driver memory sit up front. A beige headliner adds a two-tone feel to the cabin, making it read as more open than the numbers suggest.

The 9 sq ft panorama roof is the largest in the segment per BMW. Boot space is 540 litres, or 1,700 litres with the 40:20:40 rear bench folded.

A vertically stacked wireless charger with phone holder, which BMW positions as a segment-first, is fitted alongside a Harman Kardon 12-speaker, 205W system and BMW's Widescreen Curved Display running OS 9.

Upholstery choices are Veganza Perforated Castanea or Smoke White with Atlas Grey dual-tone.

Powertrain

The LWB uses a 1.5-litre three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol producing 156 hp and 230 Nm via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and front-wheel drive.

A 50:50 weight distribution and comfort-tuned suspension with extra caster travel keep the ride composed on rough surfaces. BMW claims 15.50 km/l under ARAI conditions and a 0-100 km/h time of 9.3 seconds.

Safety

Eight airbags are standard. Parking Assistant Plus adds 360-degree surround view, front and rear PDC, and a Reversing Assistant that traces the last 50 metres of your path automatically. The Driver Assistance suite covers Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and automatic emergency braking.

Rivals

The X1 LWB's close rivals are the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, and Mini Countryman C. The GLA matches it on premium feel but loses badly on rear seat space. The Q3 is the better driver's car with a more refined four-cylinder engine. The incoming third-generation Q3 launching this festive season will sharpen the competition further.

Ownership and Finance

BMW India Finance offers EMIs starting at Rs 44,444 per month, with a 60% assured buyback value at the end of a 4-year tenure.

The standard 2-year unlimited-km warranty transfers with car ownership, Service Inclusive packages extend up to 10 years or 1,00,000 km, and the X1 LWB is open for bookings at BMW dealerships across India from today.
