Four years after its launch, Renault India has launched the new Kiger facelift, and it’s looking sharper than ever. This facelift brings a sportier face with reworked bumpers, new LED lighting details, and stylish alloy wheels. Step inside and you’ll find updates like brighter interiors, a 360-degree camera, and ventilated front seats. Safety has also been beefed up, with six airbags now standard across the range.
Under the hood, powering the Kiger are the familiar 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 71 bhp and 96 Nm of torque, and the peppy 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 99 bhp with 152 Nm (Manual) and 160 Nm (CVT) of torque.
With prices starting at ₹6.29 lakh, going up to ₹11.29 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kiger will continue facing tough competition in this ever-evolving compact SUV segment.
Nissan Magnite

One of its closest rivals is its cousin, the Nissan Magnite, which also received a facelift recently. Thanks to the Renault-Nissan alliance, the Magnite and Kiger are built on the same CMF-A+ platform, use the same engines, and even share multiple components, right down to some spare parts.
Manufactured at the joint facility in Chennai, the Magnite mirrors the Kiger’s powertrain options with the 1.0-litre NA and 1.0-litre turbo options, with manual and CVT, plus a factory CNG variant in select trims. Safety has been prioritised, with six airbags, ESP, traction control, and hill-start assist now standard across the Magnite range.
Prices are in a very similar bracket, ranging between ₹6.14 lakh and ₹11.9 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an obvious consideration for anyone shortlisting the Kiger.
Maruti Brezza

The segment leader, Maruti Brezza, has long been the no-nonsense, reliable offering in this segment, with a sole 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor producing 102 bhp and 137 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Maruti also offers a CNG version for those seeking lower running costs. The Brezza petrol outshines the Kiger’s 1.0-liter naturally aspirated unit, but falls short of its turbo variants.
On the inside, it’s practical and straightforward, while offering handy features like wireless charging, connected car tech, and a roomy cabin. Safety features like six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and Hill Hold Assist are standard across the range.
Prices range between ₹8.69 lakh and ₹14.14 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it higher than both the Kiger and Magnite by a considerable margin, but it comes with Maruti’s bulletproof reliability and wide service network.
Kia Sonet

At the premium end of this compact SUV space sits the Kia Sonet, offering multiple powertrains. Engine options include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (82 bhp, 115 Nm), a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (118 bhp, 172 Nm), and a 1.5-litre diesel (114 bhp, 250 Nm). Transmission choices are just as wide, including manual, iMT, torque converter, and a quick-shifting DCT.
The Sonet shines with its feature list, top-end variants getting a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, Bose audio system, ventilated seats, a sunroof, and even Level-1 ADAS on the latest update.
Prices start at ₹7.99 lakh, going all the way up to ₹15.7 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the priciest, but also the most feature-loaded SUV in this segment.
With its refreshed styling, added safety, and city-friendly turbo-CVT combo, the Kiger is now stronger than ever as a value-packed compact SUV. The Magnite shadows it closely with near-identical hardware, while the Brezza leans on efficiency and Maruti’s reliability. The Sonet, meanwhile, caters to those who don’t mind paying more for a more premium driving and ownership experience.
