Maxi-scooters are larger, more powerful scooters designed for long-distance comfort and highway use.

Compared to regular scooters, they have bigger engines, typically 125cc and above, larger wheels, better suspension, wider seats, better wind protection and more storage space.

This segment is growing as riders look for an upgrade from typical run-of-the-mill Activas and Jupiters while still preferring a clutchless option for their daily commute.

Maxi-scooters can be comfortable for longer commutes thanks to their wide seats and generous legroom. However, their bulky styling can make them cumbersome in traffic, and fuel economy varies considerably depending on engine size and riding conditions. Electric options also bring a different ownership experience, with charging and range to consider.

Here are all the maxi-scooters available and upcoming in the Indian market.

Suzuki Burgman Street

The Suzuki Burgman Street 125 brings a premium maxi-scooter look at an affordable price. Its styling is elegant, with a long, comfortable seat, wide floorboard and sleek body lines that give it a big-scooter feel. It has LED lights and an updated digital instrument cluster.

The redesigned 2026 model uses a 124cc air-cooled engine producing 8.3 bhp and 10.2 Nm of torque. The updated scooter gets a revised frame, improved responsiveness and increased under-seat storage of 24.6 litres.

Features include smartphone connectivity, a front disc brake with a combined braking system and an external fuel-filler lid. The higher Ride Connect TFT Edition adds a 4.2-inch colour screen, keyless ignition and turn-by-turn navigation.

The older Burgman Street EX also continues to be sold separately.

Aprilia SXR GT 125

The Aprilia SXR GT 125 replaces the discontinued SXR 125 with updated styling and larger 14-inch wheels. It retains the sporty and muscular maxi-scooter design, with sharp lines, a tall stance and a front windscreen. The comfortable seat and bodywork make it suitable for everyday commuting and occasional longer trips.

It is equipped with a 124.5cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 10.6 PS and 10.4 Nm of torque. The scooter gets telescopic front suspension and a rear shock absorber with five-step adjustment.

Highlights include a 5-inch LCD instrument cluster, LED lighting and a front disc brake with a combined braking system.

Aprilia SXR GT 175

The Aprilia SXR GT 175 replaces the older SXR 160 and sits at the top of the new SXR GT range. It retains the full-bodied maxi-scooter design but gets a larger engine, revised styling and 14-inch wheels at both ends.

Its 174.7cc air-cooled engine produces 13.3 PS and 14.14 Nm of torque, offering more performance than the GT 125. The scooter gets telescopic front suspension and a rear shock absorber with five-step adjustment.

Features include a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, call and music controls, turn-by-turn navigation and handlebar-mounted controls. Braking hardware includes a front disc with single-channel ABS.

Hero Xoom 160

Hero's Xoom 160 brings adventure-inspired maxi styling with bold graphics, a rugged look and a step-through design for easy mounting. It features a dual-chamber LED headlamp, 14-inch wheels and a tall stance that gives it presence on the road. The seating is spacious for two.

Its 156cc liquid-cooled engine delivers 14.6 bhp and 14 Nm of torque, offering strong performance for a scooter of this size. The claimed mileage is around 40 kmpl, although actual fuel economy depends on riding conditions.

Features include keyless entry, a digital instrument cluster, remote boot access, i3S start-stop technology and single-channel ABS. The 7-litre tank and under-seat storage add practicality.

Yamaha Aerox 155

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is a sporty maxi-scooter with aggressive styling, sharp bodywork and a premium finish. It looks dynamic with its sleek fairing and sporty graphics. The riding position is comfortable yet engaging, and 14-inch wheels provide stability.

It packs a 155cc liquid-cooled engine with VVA technology, producing 15 PS and 13.9 Nm. This results in lively acceleration and a claimed top speed above 110 kmph, while real-world mileage varies with riding style.

Standout features include traction control, Y-Connect Bluetooth connectivity, a fully digital instrument display, LED lights and single-channel ABS. The higher Version S adds a keyless system. Under-seat storage is about 24.5 litres.

Yamaha Aerox-E

The Yamaha Aerox-E carries the sporty maxi-scooter styling of the Aerox 155 but replaces the petrol engine with an electric powertrain. Its aggressive bodywork, 14-inch wheels and full-sized design distinguish it from smaller electric scooters.

It uses a 9.4 kW electric motor and two removable 1.5 kWh battery packs, providing a combined 3 kWh capacity. Yamaha claims an IDC range of 117 km and a top speed of 95.5 kmph.

Features include three riding modes, a boost function, reverse mode, a TFT display with smartphone connectivity and single-channel ABS. The removable batteries offer added flexibility for charging.

It is considerably more expensive than the petrol Aerox 155, making its appeal largely dependent on electric running costs and the convenience of charging.

BMW C 400 GT

The BMW C 400 GT is the flagship luxury maxi-scooter in India. Its styling is sophisticated, with a tall windscreen, premium build quality and elegant lines that give it a refined appearance. It offers a relaxed riding posture suited to longer journeys.

The 350cc liquid-cooled engine produces 34 hp and 35 Nm, delivering powerful performance with a top speed near 140 kmph. Fuel economy is generally lower than on the smaller scooters, depending on riding conditions.

Features include a large TFT display with connectivity, ABS, traction control, keyless ride and generous under-seat storage. The scooter also gets a substantial chassis and touring-oriented suspension.

BMW CE 04

The BMW CE 04 is an electric maxi-scooter with futuristic styling, an elongated body and a distinctive floating seat. Its design is very different from conventional petrol scooters, and it sits firmly in the premium electric segment.

The liquid-cooled electric motor produces up to 31 kW, equivalent to around 42 hp, and 62 Nm of torque. It uses a high-voltage battery with a claimed range of approximately 130 km under the WMTC test cycle.

Features include a large TFT display, smartphone connectivity and multiple riding modes. Its substantial performance and electric powertrain make it a different proposition from the smaller, city-focused scooters in this list.

Upcoming Maxi Scooters

Honda ADV 160

Honda has launched and priced the ADV 160 in India, but customer deliveries have been postponed to 2027. It is an adventure-style maxi-scooter with rugged styling, a tall windscreen, handguards and 14-inch front and 13-inch rear wheels.

It uses a 156.93cc liquid-cooled engine designed to run on petrol blends containing up to E85 ethanol. It produces 12 kW (16.3 hp) and 14.9 Nm.

Features include a 5-inch TFT display with Honda RoadSync, traction control, single-channel ABS, dual disc brakes, USB charging and 27 litres of under-seat storage. The fuel tank holds 8.1 litres.

Bookings opened with a ₹5,000 token, but deliveries are now expected to begin in 2027.

Yamaha NMAX 155

The Yamaha NMAX 155 is another strong prospect for the Indian market, with a launch likely by 2027. It shares its 155cc liquid-cooled engine with the Aerox 155, producing around 15 hp and 14 Nm in international markets.

The NMAX offers a more conventional maxi-scooter design, with a broader front fairing, a comfortable riding position and 13-inch wheels. Overseas models offer features such as a TFT display, smartphone connectivity, traction control and dual-channel ABS, although the final Indian specifications remain unconfirmed.

Yamaha has not confirmed its Indian launch date or final price.

TVS 160cc Maxi-Scooter

TVS is developing a new 160cc liquid-cooled maxi-scooter platform, which could arrive by 2027.

The upcoming scooter is expected to use a new chassis and engine rather than simply adapting the existing NTorq 150. It could take a sporty, adventure-inspired or conventional maxi-scooter form.

Not much more is known about this scooter as of now. TVS has not confirmed its final design, specifications, features, price or launch date.
