VinFast VF7 Overview

Updated on March 24, 2026

VinFast positions the VF7 as a stylish, premium midsize electric SUV that combines European-influenced design with a sleek, aerodynamic body and a distinctive LED lighting signature. This SUV stance is paired with a dual-motor AWD powertrain in its top configuration, which is designed to deliver strong performance and the instant torque characteristic of electric vehicles.

Inside, the cabin features a modern, premium layout with soft-touch materials, seating for five occupants, and a large infotainment screen. This design focuses equally on practicality, offering multiple storage areas, comfortable seating, and a usable boot space.

The VF7 offers a comprehensive ADAS suite and multiple connectivity features, which, combined with its fast-charging capability, position it as a competitive option for buyers considering a premium electric SUV.

Engine and Performance

The VF7 is a pure electric vehicle available in both FWD and AWD configurations, with power managed through a single-speed reduction gearbox. The FWD variants utilise a single motor producing either 175 hp with 250 Nm or a more powerful 201 hp with 310 Nm of torque.

For those seeking maximum performance, the top AWD configuration employs dual motors to deliver a combined 348 hp and 500 Nm, which is enough to achieve a 5.8-second 0-100 km/h sprint. (claimed)

To tailor the driving experience, three selectable modes – Eco, Normal, and Sport - allow tuning the character of the drive. This is complemented by four levels of regenerative braking (Off, Low, Medium, and High), which provide meaningful control over energy recovery and deceleration feel.

fuel economy

The VF7’s claimed range on the MIDC Part 1+2 cycle reaches up to 532 km or 510km with the 70kWh battery pack, depending on the drivetrain option. Considering the 59.6 kWh pack, it has a claimed range of 438 km. It is important to note that these figures are tested in Eco mode, so real-world numbers will typically be lower. For context on how this stacks up against the broader market, our EV range comparison guide is worth a read.

To maintain this range, the vehicle supports multiple charging methods through its CCS2 port, ensuring compatibility with most public fast chargers in India. Using DC fast charging at speeds up to 110 kW, the battery can replenish from 10% to 70% in approximately 24-28 minutes, depending on the variant.

For daily use, AC charging is available at up to 7.2 kW, and a 3.3 kW portable charger (16A) is included for home or emergency convenience.

interior

The VF7 interior adopts a clean, minimalist design characterised by vegan leather upholstery and soft-touch materials throughout.

This modern aesthetic is anchored by a dashboard dominated by a large 32.76 cm central touchscreen, which is paired with a digital driver display and a Head-Up Display to enhance the premium, tech-forward feel.

In terms of ergonomics, the driver is provided a power-adjustable seat offering 6-way adjustment on the base model and 8-way on higher variants, alongside a D-cut multi-function steering wheel that adjusts for both tilt and telescopic reach.

Both front seats are ventilated, and the automatic dual-zone climate control includes a PM 1.0 filter and an air ioniser in higher trims, providing a thoughtful addition for Indian urban environments.

This focus on extends to the rear, where passengers benefit from decent knee room, a flat floor, and a 2-step reclining backrest with 60:40 split folding.

Connectivity is equally well-managed, featuring two USB Type-A ports up front and a combination of two Type-A and one 90W Type-C port in the back, supplemented by a centre armrest with cupholders and available wireless charging on higher variants.

Finally, for practical utility, the boot offers 537 litres of space, making it well-suited for family luggage and weekend travel.

exterior

The VF7 features a modern exterior characterised by clean, flowing lines and a sporty SUV profile. With a respectable 210 mm ground clearance, it helps the vehicle maintain adequate underbody clearance over uneven roads and speed breakers. Up front, the design is highlighted by sleek LED projector headlamps with a signature "V-light" bar that gives the front fascia a distinctive and premium look.

The side profile further emphasises this aesthetic with flush door handles, sculpted character lines, and a floating roof design. The ORVMs are particularly well-specced for this price point, offering power adjustment, folding, heating, auto-dimming, memory, and a reverse-link function, along with integrated LED turn indicators.

Additionally, an acoustic windshield helps reduce external noise, while a shark-fin antenna and available roof rails on higher variants complete the silhouette.

At the rear,  a look is mirrored to the front with connected LED tail lamps and a sporty bumper to tie the design together. Accessing the 537-litre cargo area is also made convenient via an electric tailgate release on the base variant, which upgrades to full-powered operation on higher trims.

safety

The VF7 is well-equipped for safety, featuring seven airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assist and more. To assist with low-speed maneuvering, there is a 360-degree camera and rear parking sensors are also included.

Standard security and monitoring features encompass direct tyre pressure monitoring, Roll Over Mitigation, an Emergency Signal System, and speed-sensitive auto door locks. The vehicle also includes a theft alarm, an immobiliser, and seatbelt reminders for all seats, offering a more comprehensive standard package than many of its competitors.

Moreover, the VF7 comes equipped with ADAS across the entire range, with blind spot detection as standard. Higher variants expand on this with lane management, collision warnings, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, a driver distraction warning system, among others.

Additionally, it is worth noting that the VF 7 has scored a five-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash test ratings, scoring 28.54/32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45.25/49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP).

competition

The VinFast VF7 competes in the premium midsize electric SUV segment against the Tata Harrier EV, Mahindra XEV 9e, and BYD Atto 3, all targeting family buyers seeking range, space, and features in a similar price band.

The Harrier EV holds an edge with larger battery options (up to 75 kWh), a higher claimed range of up to 627 km, and more powerful AWD setups. Tata's extensive service network adds further confidence. The VF7 responds with a more aggressive starting price, quicker DC fast-charging, a longer 2,840 mm wheelbase, and a more distinctive, aerodynamic design.

The XEV 9e stands out for its larger battery, claimed range exceeding 600 km, and Mahindra's strong nationwide after-sales reach. The VF7 counters with faster charging, premium vegan leather interiors, and a sleek European-inspired design.

The Atto 3 brings proven Blade Battery technology, an established city dealer footprint, and V2L capability. The VF7 leads in DC charging speed, cabin space, dual-motor performance, and the sheer breadth of its ADAS suite on higher variants.
