The Indian car market continued its robust momentum in February, with compact SUVs and sedans dominating the charts.

Based on the latest sales figures, here are the top five models that were popular among car buyers.

The Tata Nexon led the pack with 19,430 units sold in February, registering an impressive 27% year on year (YoY) growth.

It offers a flexible range of powertrains, including a responsive 1.2-litre turbo-petrol producing 118 bhp, a torque-rich 1.5-litre diesel delivering 113 bhp, efficient CNG variants, and zero-emission electric options, paired with manual, AMT, or DCT gearboxes.

It offers a 5-star safety rating, ample ground clearance for rough roads, dual 10.25-inch screens with seamless connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and ventilated seats.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire followed closely with strong sales of 19,326 units, achieving a robust 32% YoY growth.

Powered by a smooth 1.2-litre Z-series petrol engine producing 80-82 bhp (available with manual or AMT transmission) and a factory CNG setup offering outstanding mileage, it delivers reliability and low running costs.

Standout highlights include an electric sunroof, a 360-degree camera for easy parking, Suzuki Connect telematics for remote monitoring, LED lighting, a spacious cabin, and a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.

Tata’s Punch claimed the third position with 18,748 units sold, posting a strong 29% YoY increase.

Its powertrain options span a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a punchy new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol variant delivering 118 bhp, and a CNG option mated to manual or AMT transmissions.

Key highlights include its bold micro-SUV stance with high seating, comprehensive safety kit with a 5-star rating, a 360-degree camera, multiple drive modes, compact footprint perfect for city traffic, and versatile utility that punches above its size.

Hyundai Creta

Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta secured fourth place with 17,938 units sold, reflecting a steady 10% YoY growth.

The mid-size SUV comes with three engine options - a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol producing 113 bhp, a turbo-petrol engine offering 158-160 bhp, and a frugal diesel delivering 114 bhp. All are paired to multiple transmission options, including a manual, CVT, DCT, and a torque converter.

Premium touches include a panoramic sunroof, dual 10.25-inch displays, Level-2 ADAS on higher trims, ventilated seats, a Bose audio system, and a spacious interior.

Rounding out the top five was the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, which sold 17,863 units, with a 16% YoY growth.

It is equipped with a reliable 1.5-litre petrol engine producing around 103 bhp paired to a manual or automatic transmission, and an efficient CNG option that keeps fuel bills low.

It gets an electric sunroof, a 360-degree camera, a heads-up display on top variants, standard six airbags, a comfortable ride over bad roads, and thoughtful storage spaces.
