Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the Harrier EV on June 3, 2025, and ahead of the big reveal, the company has showcased its impressive off-road prowess. In a daring promotional video, the electric SUV is seen conquering Kerala’s Elephant Rock trail, showcasing the brand’s first all-wheel drive EV system, along with several new off-road features.

Conquering the Impossible

The Harrier EV becomes Tata’s first vehicle with AWD since the Safari Storme and is powered by a dual-motor setup that produces over 500Nm of torque. In the video, the Harrier EV climbs a steep 34-degree incline at Elephant Rock, an area known for its loose boulders, sharp craters, and dangerous elevation.

The route was divided into three zones, Minefield, Ridge, and Beast, each with increasing levels of difficulty.

To handle the challenge, the Harrier EV comes equipped with several off-road features like an ‘Off-Road Assist’ mode, a 360-degree camera with a transparent bonnet view, and terrain modes for snow, sand, and rocks. It also has a Boost Mode that helps unlock full power, which was key to tackling the toughest part of the trail.

Built for Adventure

Inside, the Harrier EV carries over the familiar 12.3-inch infotainment system and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster from the ICE-powered Harrier. The rotary terrain mode selector is now upgraded to feature off-road-specific modes, and new toggle buttons on the center console allow quick access to Eco and Boost settings.

The SUV’s advanced QWD (Quad Wheel Drive) system, electronically controlled suspension setup, and robust architecture combine to deliver confident off-road capability. While Tata has not disclosed detailed specifications yet, the Harrier EV is expected to deliver over 500km of range on a single charge. In fact, the video briefly shows a range of 560km with 90% state of charge.

How It Compares

The Harrier EV will sit above the upcoming Curvv EV, both in terms of size and performance. While the Curvv EV is expected to target urban buyers with a coupe-SUV silhouette, front-wheel-drive layout, and a claimed range of 430-502 km, the Harrier EV offers a more rugged, adventure-ready appeal with its AWD configuration and off-road focus.

As for the regular ICE-powered Harrier, it continues with a front-wheel-drive diesel powertrain and lacks off-road features like multiple terrain modes or all-wheel drive. The Harrier EV not only adds electric performance but also brings a completely new dimension in capability that the standard Harrier doesn’t offer.

Pricing and Rivals

Set to be Tata’s new flagship EV offering, the Harrier EV will sit above the Curvv EV in the company’s lineup. The AWD variant is likely to be positioned at the top end of the range, with lower trims possibly featuring a single-motor setup. Tata Motors is expected to price the Harrier EV between Rs 25-30 lakh (ex-showroom).

At launch, it will compete with the likes of the Mahindra XUV.e9 and BYD Atto 3, making it one of the most capable electric SUVs in its class.
