Maruti Suzuki To Launch 7 New SUVs By 2031

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch seven new SUVs by 2031 as part of its plan to expand its SUV portfolio and target annual sales of around 3 million vehicles. The company has confirmed the seven-SUV roadmap, although it has not revealed the names and launch timelines of all seven models.

The move comes as Maruti looks to strengthen its position in India's SUV market. The company currently sells the Fronx, Brezza, Grand Vitara, Victoris, Jimny and Invicto, but its upcoming product plan is expected to cover several segments that are currently missing from its lineup.

Possible Maruti Suzuki SUV Launches

Maruti has not officially confirmed the final names of all seven SUVs. However, several projects have already been reported and could form part of the upcoming portfolio.

One of the most important upcoming products is expected to be a new small SUV positioned below the Brezza. The model could take on the Tata Punch and other entry-level SUVs. It would give Maruti a stronger presence in a segment that has become increasingly important for Indian car buyers.

The YMC is another significant project in Maruti's future product pipeline. It is expected to be a larger family-oriented vehicle, with reports pointing towards three-row seating. Maruti has not yet confirmed its production name, specifications or pricing.

A seven-seat version of the Grand Vitara is also expected to be part of Maruti's future SUV strategy. The existing Grand Vitara is a five-seater, so a larger version would allow the company to compete more directly in the three-row family SUV segment.

The seven-SUV plan is also expected to include updates to existing products. The Fronx could receive a facelift or new generation, while the Jimny is also expected to get an update in the coming years. These products could therefore count towards the company's broader SUV roadmap rather than the seven vehicles being entirely new nameplates.

Maruti is also expected to add more electric SUVs as it expands its EV portfolio. The company has already entered the electric vehicle market and is working on additional products for the coming years. Its broader powertrain strategy also includes hybrids, CNG and other alternative-fuel technologies.

The SUV expansion will be supported by higher production capacity. Maruti Suzuki is targeting annual production capacity of around 3.65 million vehicles by FY2031, allowing it to support its target of selling around 3 million vehicles annually while also increasing exports.

Despite the SUV push, Maruti is not abandoning small cars. The company expects the small-car segment to recover as affordability improves, meaning hatchbacks will continue to form an important part of its volume strategy.

For buyers, the biggest change will be the wider choice of Maruti SUVs over the next five years. The company is expected to cover more price points and segments, from smaller SUVs below the Brezza to larger three-row vehicles and electric SUVs.

However, Maruti has confirmed the seven-SUV roadmap, not the complete seven-model list. The names, specifications, prices and launch dates of several products are still unknown and should not be treated as officially confirmed until Maruti announces them.
