Mahindra Thar OG Launched at Rs 10.32 Lakh, Here’s What’s New

Mahindra has launched the facelifted three-door Thar, now badged as Thar OG. Prices start at Rs 10.32 lakh ex-showroom, which keeps the entry price unchanged from the outgoing model. Deliveries are set to commence from October 11, 2026.

This is the second update to the current-generation three-door Thar in a little over a year, but this one brings changes well beyond the usual facelift treatment.

What is new on the Thar OG

The most obvious changes are at the front. The Thar OG gets a new five-slat grille with an offset Thar logo, full LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs and LED ice cube fog lamps with cornering functionality. The bumpers have also been redesigned, while the SUV gets a wider track and new 19-inch star-pattern alloy wheels.

The rear gets revised LED tail lamps, while the cabin receives Truffle Brown leatherette seats. Mahindra has also added rear armrests with integrated cupholders on either side, giving rear passengers a small but useful addition. Aside from these, it now features the push-button start and a wireless charger as well.

The larger infotainment screen and redesigned centre console are carried over from the 2025 update rather than being new for this version.

The Thar OG is also available in two new exterior colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, taking the total colour palette to eight shades.

A bigger mechanical change than a normal facelift

The biggest change is underneath. Mahindra has moved the Thar OG to its M_Glyde 4G platform, which the company says is five percent lighter in frame mass and has an 11 percent higher torsional frequency than the previous setup.

The rear suspension now uses a Pentalink layout with a Watts Link, while Frequency Dependent Damping is introduced through Mahindra's DAVINCI dampers. The SUV also switches from hydraulic to electric power steering, with the steering rack positioned closer to the wheel centre.

More off-road hardware

The Thar OG gets an electronic rear locking differential that can lock both rear wheels together when additional traction is needed. It also gets three terrain modes for sand, snow and mud, with changes to systems including traction control, throttle response, steering weight and transmission behaviour.

The off-road hardware also includes brake-locking differential functionality, automatic hub locks and tow hitch protection. These additions sit alongside the electronic locking differential and the new terrain modes.

Six airbags now standard

Six airbags are standard across the range. Mahindra also says the new four-unit HPTS system provides protection around the head, pelvis, thorax and shoulder areas in a side impact. Four-wheel disc brakes are also standard, while higher variants get front parking sensors.

Other equipment includes ESP, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, hill-hold assist, hill-descent control, TPMS and ISOFIX mounts.

Thar OG Engines, Variants and Ex-showroom Prices

The Thar OG is available with three engines. The 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol produces 162 PS and 330Nm, while the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel develops 152 PS and 330Nm. The 1.5-litre CRDe diesel continues with 119 PS and 300Nm.

The 2.2-litre diesel is also available with rear-wheel drive, expanding the choice beyond its previous four-wheel-drive configuration.

A six-speed manual is available across the range, while the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel can also be paired with a six-speed torque-converter automatic.

The range consists of AXT, LXT and ZXT variants. The 1.5-litre diesel is restricted to the AXT, while the LXT and ZXT are available with all three engines. The Thar OG is offered only with a hardtop.
