The Haval H9 is a full-size, body-on-frame SUV designed for rugged capability and urban refinement. The second-generation model (2024) measures 4,950 - 5,070 mm in length, 1,976 mm in width, 1,930 mm in height, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase. Its exterior features a bold rectangular grille, sharp LED headlights, and 19-inch alloy wheels with 265/55 R19 tyres.

On the inside, the H9's interior combines functionality with premium comfort, featuring a driver-centric dashboard with a clean, modern layout. Dominated by a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the cabin integrates intuitive controls and a digital instrument cluster. It gets high-quality leather upholstery, complemented by soft-touch materials and ambient lighting.

The spacious design ensures ample legroom across its five or seven-seating configurations, with reclining rear seats and USB ports enhancing passenger convenience.

Powertrains and Performance

The H9 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 241 hp and 350 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. It achieves 0 to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds with a fuel economy of approximately 9.5-11 km/l. A 2.4-litre turbo diesel variant, available in select markets, produces 380 Nm of torque with a nine-speed automatic.

The all-terrain 4WD system includes Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud, and 4 Low modes, complemented by adaptive dampers and hill-descent control. Top speed reaches 180 km/h.

Features

Other features include a 10-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof. The cabin offers reclining rear seats, USB ports, and a 360-degree camera. Traffic jam assist and adaptive cruise control enhance comfort and convenience in city traffic and long, highway trips.

The H9 holds a four-star ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) rating, featuring lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, six airbags, ABS, ESC, and tyre pressure monitoring. Haval, a subsidiary of Great Wall Motor (GWM) established in 2013, is a Chinese automaker specialising in SUVs. GWM, founded in 1984, launched its first SUV, the Haval CUV, in 2005, with the Haval H6 becoming China’s top-selling SUV since 2011.

Haval currently operates in over 60 countries, including Australia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Russia, Brazil, Malaysia, and Chile, with localised production in Thailand and other regions.

India Market Potential

Haval debuted at India’s 2020 Auto Expo, showcasing models like the H9 and announcing a ₹7,000 crore investment for local manufacturing, but geopolitical factors delayed its planned 2021 launch. It is unlikely that the brand would be setting foot in India anytime soon.
