Toyota has officially entered India’s mass market electric SUV space with the launch of the Urban Cruiser Ebella, its first fully electric SUV for the country.

Exterior

The Urban Cruiser Ebella carries a familiar silhouette but adds enough Toyota specific touches to stand apart. Up front, it features sleek segmented LED DRLs paired with triangular LED headlights, connected visually by a thick black trim strip. The bumper design is cleaner and more aerodynamic, with vertical air vents at the edges.

 Chunky body cladding runs along the sides, while the rear door handles are neatly tucked into the C pillar. At the back, segmented LED tail lamps mirror the front lighting signature. The SUV rides on 18 inch aero optimised alloy wheels, helping both style and efficiency.

Interior

Inside, the Ebella feels modern and well equipped, closely mirroring its Maruti sibling but with Toyota branding and finishes. The cabin features a 10.1 inch digital driver’s display and a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Comfort highlights include ventilated front seats, sliding rear seats, a panoramic roof, front seat armrest and a premium JBL sound system. 

Ambient lighting with 12 selectable colours adds a premium touch, while the squircle steering wheel and electronic parking brake with auto hold bring a contemporary EV feel.

Battery, power and range

Toyota is offering the Urban Cruiser Ebella with two LFP battery options. The smaller 49kWh pack produces 144hp, while the larger 61kWh battery delivers 174hp and 189Nm of torque. is simialr for both battery packs The 61kWh version offers an ARAI claimed range of up to 543km on a single charge. Both batteries support quick charging and liquid cooling for better performance in Indian conditions.  It is powered by a single motor powering the front wheels

The long 2700mm wheelbase also helps improve cabin space and ride comfort.

Sales, service and ownership

Toyota is backing the Ebella with a strong EV ownership ecosystem. Buyers get an 8 year battery warranty, access to over 500 EV enabled service touchpoints and a Battery as a Service option to reduce upfront cost. The company claims 2500 trained EV mechanics and a streamlined 45 minute scheduled maintenance process. 

Charging support is handled through partnerships with ChargeZone and Jio BP, ensuring easier access to public AC and DC charging. Toyota also offers i Connect mobile app support with over 100 connected features, real time charge information and a 60 percent assured buyback value after three years.

Price and launch availability

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is priced between ₹19.06 lakh and ₹24.42 lakh on road, depending on the variant and battery pack. It will be offered in two main variants based on the 49kWh and 61kWh batteries. Colour options include Cafe White, Bluish Black, Gaming Grey, Sporting Red and Enticing Silver, along with multiple dual tone combinations featuring a black roof. Bookings are expected to open soon across Toyota dealerships nationwide.

It rivals the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and the Tata Curvv EV. Vinfast VF6, XEV9s and Harrier EV and the upcoming Sierra EV
