Citroen Basalt Overview

Updated on April 28, 2026

The Citroën Basalt merges the upright stance and practicality of an SUV with the flowing roofline and elegance of a coupé. Sharing its platform with the C3 Aircross, it draws its name and design from volcanic rock to combine sturdiness with serene lines.

Its performance is delivered by two 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engines - the PureTech 82 naturally aspirated (81 hp/115 Nm) with a 5-speed manual, and the PureTech 110 turbocharged (108.5 hp) unit, which produces 190 Nm in manual form or 205 Nm with the 6-speed automatic.

The exterior of the car gets LED projector headlamps with signature daytime running lights, high-gloss black grille elements, and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Inside, the dashboard uses soft-touch materials or Brown Marse leatherette alongside a digital TFT cluster and a 26 cm floating touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In addition, seating includes fabric or leatherette upholstery with adjustable headrests in both rows, complemented by rear AC vents and a centre armrest.

On the safety end, standard equipment include 6 airbags, electronic stability programme, hill-hold assist, and tyre-pressure monitoring.

Engine and Performance

The Basalt is offered with two 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engines from the PureTech family. The PureTech 82 naturally aspirated variant produces 81 hp at 5750 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 3750 rpm, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Meanwhile, the PureTech 110 turbocharged engine delivers 108.5 hp at 5500 rpm and 190 Nm at 1750 rpm with the 6-speed manual or 205 Nm with the 6-speed automatic.

fuel economy

ARAI-certified fuel efficiency stands at 18.0 kmpl for the PureTech 82 5-speed manual, 19.5 kmpl for the PureTech 110 6-speed manual and 18.7 kmpl for the PureTech 110 6-speed automatic.

The 45-litre fuel tank capacity applies across all powertrain options.

interior

The Basalt’s dashboard gets soft-touch painted surfaces or Brown Marse leatherette with engraved stitching in higher trims, accented by contrasting colors and diffused ambient lighting across the instrument panel and doors.

Ahead of the driver, the steering wheel integrates audio, phone, and cluster controls, with leather wrapping on top trims, alongside a 17.78 cm floating digital instrument cluster.

Centrally, a 26 cm floating touchscreen provides Bluetooth and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity through up to four speakers and two tweeters.

Seating wise, the front seats use fabric or leatherette upholstery with adjustable headrests, while the rear bench adds a smart tilt cushion, "naprest" headrests, and a center armrest with cup holders.

For added convenience, the cabin includes dedicated rear AC vents, bottle holders, and one-touch power windows on all four doors.

exterior

The Basalt is 4352 mm long, 1765 mm wide (without mirrors), and 1593 mm tall with a 2651 mm wheelbase. The front features Citroën’s chrome chevron emblems, a high-gloss black grille, and LED projector headlamps with signature daytime running lights; higher trims add LED fog lamps. Body-coloured bumpers and a front skid plate are also included.

Along the side, the profile incorporates body-coloured door handles, high-gloss black mirrors, and cladding, while base models use sash tape on the pillars. Depending on the trim, it uses 16-inch urban diamond-cut alloy wheels or full wheel covers.

This leads to a sloping coupé roofline and a rear equipped with LED tail lamps, a chevron surround, Basalt badging, and a rear skid plate.

Finally, ground clearance allows for light off-road use, supported by 205/60 R16 tyres and an 185/65 R15 steel spare.

safety

The Basalt received a 4-star rating in Bharat NCAP testing for both adult occupant protection (26.19 out of 32 points) and child occupant protection (35.90 out of 49 points).

Standard safety equipment across the range includes 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability programme, hill-hold assist, ISOFIX child-seat anchorage with top tether, seat-belt reminders for all seats and reverse parking sensors. Higher variants add tyre-pressure monitoring and a 360-degree camera.

Additionally, the body structure employs high-strength steel, advanced high-strength steel and ultra-high-strength steel to manage impact energy.

competition

The Basalt’s closest rival is the Tata Curvv, the other SUV-coupé in the market.

The Curvv holds advantages with a wider powertrain choice that includes diesel and electric options, a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and more features in equivalent trims. The Basalt matches it with a plusher ride from its Advanced Comfort suspension, and noticeably more rear legroom thanks to the 2651 mm wheelbase.

It also competes with the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun in the broader compact crossover segment. Those models offer more engine options, while the Basalt leads with its distinctive coupé roofline, and a generous 470-litre boot.
