The Tata Nano EV, an electric version of the original Tata Nano, has been a subject of interest and speculation over the years. While Tata Motors has explored the concept, the Nano EV has not officially been ‘green lit’ from the makers.
Early Concepts

In 2010, Tata Motors showcased an electric variant of the Nano at the Geneva Motor Show, indicating initial interest in electrifying the model.
Jayem Neo Collaboration

Around 2015, Tata Motors collaborated with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives to develop an electric version named the Jayem Neo. Approximately 400 units were produced and supplied to Ola Cabs for fleet operations in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. However, this model was not made available to the general public.
Project Challenges

The Nano EV project faced several hurdles, including stringent crash test norms and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to its discontinuation. Jayem Automotives' Managing Director, J Anand, confirmed that there are no plans to revive the project.
Current Status:

As of now, Tata Motors has not announced any official plans to launch a Nano EV for the consumer market. While the concept has been explored and prototypes have been developed, the Nano EV remains unavailable to the general public.
