- Avinya X to be the First Model
- When Will Tata Avinya Production Commence?
As per media reports, Tata Motors has decided to use a new Chery-JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) platform instead of the initially planned JLR Electrified Modular Architecture for its upcoming Avinya EV line-up.
This is being done to facilitate cost reductions that can speed up the development process and make for a more rapid market introduction of their luxury electric cars.
Avinya X to be the First Model

The Avinya X, codenamed P2, is likely to be the first model to come off the production lines of Tata Motors.
This EV will be developed on the Freelander EV platform. However, the carmaker is reworking on the primary areas of the software, electronics, and the vehicle systems to suit the Indian market needs.
Using the Chery JLR derived platform allows Tata Motors skip the heavy lifting involved in the development part from scratch and instead focus on software, connectivity features, and the overall user experience.

Tata Motors is also likely to introduce a large premium three row electric SUV under the Avinya platform which is expected to arrive after the Avinya X. The carmaker aims to establish Avinya as a standalone premium electric car brand rather than a part of Tata’s product range.
Battery strategy is also starting to take shape. The first Avinya models could feature battery packs between 65kWh and 80kWh to ensure weight, range and affordability are balanced.
When Will Tata Avinya Production Commence?

Tata's Chennai-Ranipet manufacturing facility will play a crucial part in the production of Avinya models.
The existing assembly plant with an annual capacity of around 30,000 units is likely to handle initial manufacturing before localisation level steps up.

JLR may also make use of the broader architecture family for their future international products, creating opportunities for common manufacturing processes, shared sourcing strategies and joint supplier investments with Tata Motors.
Speaking to Autocar India, a Tata spokesperson stated,
“Avinya is being developed as a global premium brand for a next generation EV portfolio to be built on multiple, scalable platforms and architectures while being anchored in Tata Motors design, engineering and integration capabilities.
The first Avinya vehicle to be launched in India in 2027 will leverage the Freelander platform produced by CJLR and will be made at the recently opened, state-of-the-art TMPV-JLR manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu."
