Kia Sorento Diesel Launched in India from Rs 27.99 Lakh

Kia India held what is arguably its biggest product event, launching its flagship SUV and revealing three vehicles in one go. The Sorento three-row SUV and Carnival HEV are the headlines, and the Carens Clavis CNG has also been announced; Kia also showcased its first Flex-Fuel concept based on the Syros.

The Sorento Diesel starts at Rs 27.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the diesel 7-seater in HTE trim, going up to Rs 40.39 lakh for the top hybrid 6-seater. The hybrid variants begin at Rs 29.49 lakh.

Sorento Diesel Powertrain and Variants

The Sorento comes with two engines. The 2.2-litre diesel, paired with an 8-speed DCT, produces 193 PS and 442 Nm. It is the same engine that powered the Carnival and used to come in the Hyundai Tucson as well.

Exterior

The Sorento carries Kia's Digital Tiger Face upfront, a wide, multi-bar geometric dark chrome grille that spans the full width of the nose, flanked by stacked LED headlamps.

Standing 1.78 m tall, the side profile is upright and clean, with an integrated rear spoiler that conceals the wiper behind it.

The tail lamps are vertical LED units connected by a full-width light bar across the tailgate.

Cabin and Tech

The Sorento gets a panoramic curved display, a 12.3-inch HD digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, and a dial-type shift-by-wire gear selector. Navigation-based smart cruise control and Digital Key 2.0 are included as well.

Second-row captain seats, ventilation, and an ergo-motion function are on the list, along with wing-type headrests and relaxation seats.

Safety covers 10 airbags, a 26-feature standard safety pack, ADAS Level 2+ with 30 autonomous safety functions, and multi-collision braking.

It also gets the Kia AI Assistant, a real-time generative AI system with Perplexity handling the intelligence layer and SoundHound AI powering the voice recognition.

Unlike a standard voice assistant working off a fixed dataset, it can handle back-and-forth conversation and pull live information.

Booking And Availability

Kia has started its 2026 product offensive with the launch of the new Sorento at an introductory price of 27.99 lakhs. Buyers can book the SUV online through Kia’s website or visit an authorised dealership.

Online bookings require a Rs 25,000 payment, while deliveries are scheduled to begin later this month.
