Hero is one of the largest bike makers, with millions of two-wheelers sold every year. Here are its most popular 125 cc bikes and what sets them apart.

To be honest, I was in the market for a 125 cc myself to replace my now aging and, frankly, very petrol-hungry Aprilia SR 150.

Hero has three bikes in this space: Glamour 125, Super Splendor, and Glamour XTEC, all priced within ₹600 to ₹2,000, that’s what prompted me to write this article in the first place.

For this comparison, I will only be considering the base drum variant of all three bikes to keep things fair and affordable.

So, what does that extra ₹600 to ₹2,000 get you if you are in the market for a solid 125 cc from Hero? Let’s find out.

If you would rather read the specs, there is a table at the bottom you can directly skip too

Hero Glamour 125

Let’s start with the cheapest one first, the Hero Glamour 125, which right now is priced at around ₹83,813 on Hero’s official website.

which is around ₹600 less than the Super Splendor XTEC.

So, what’s the difference between the Glamour 125 and the Super Splendor XTEC 125?

The Glamour here is priced slightly lower but gets a more modern look, including sleeker mirrors, alloy wheels, and blacked-out engine and gearbox sections.

Both bikes come with an almost identical set of features, including a digital display, USB charging port, and the now mandatory hazard light switch.

The Glamour’s seat is slightly taller than the Splendor’s, so you might need a bit of adjustment depending on your height. Another minor difference is the rear tyre size. While both are similar, the Glamour gets a slightly wider 100/80 rear tyre compared to the 90/90 unit on the Splendor.

Hero Super Splendor XTec

Next bike on our list is the Super Splendor XTEC 125 drum variant. It is priced at ₹84,448, around ₹600 more than the Glamour 125 above and the only thing you get in part form subjective styling differences is an extra 2 liter capacity fuel tank and a slightly more skinnier tire

The bike is pretty simple looking, to be honest. It’s made for people who don’t care much about flashy design or loud graphics. Sure, there are a few nice colour options, with matte grey being my personal favourite as it keeps things looking fresh, but its own in-house rivals are clearly more stylish.

The drum brake Super Splendor 125 has an efficiency-focused engine. I currently own a regular Splendor from 2017, and that thing consistently delivers around 60 kmpl regardless of terrain or traffic. With the larger 125 cc engine, I would expect maybe a 4 to 5 kmpl drop, which is still solid.

On paper, it is similar to Glamour 125 at 122 kg and produces 10.7 bhp and 10.6 Nm of torque. Those numbers are not too far off from my current SR150, but thanks to a proper gearbox, this bike will feel more responsive in everyday riding while delivering nearly three times the range per litre of petrol.

Speaking of features, the Super Splendor XTEC has a couple of highlights in my opinion. The first is the LED headlamp with DRLs, which also comes with a hazard lamp function. The second is its digital console, which shows basic but useful information like service reminders, high beam indicator, and other essentials.

A USB charging port is also included. It might not matter much for someone like me with short daily commutes like mine, which is around 10 km as I go from Udyog VIhar to U Block, but for someone planning longer rides or using the bike for delivery or taxi purposes with a phone mount, it can help maintain charge levels.

If you upgrade to the disc variant, you get a 240 mm front disc brake for about ₹4,000 extra.

Out of the three bikes, this one also has the largest fuel tank at 12 litres

Hero 125 Glamour X

The last bike on our list from Hero’s 125 cc segment is the latest and greatest, the Glamour X. There is also the Xtreme 125R, but that belongs to a completely different segment.

The Glamour X, aside from its viral YouTube ad, is known for its segment-first features like a full TFT display and ride modes, even on the drum variant discussed here. It looks much more modern than the other two bikes on this list and comes with an LED headlamp, although it still gets regular bulb-type indicators.

If you upgrade to the disc variant, which costs around ₹10,000 more, you also get features like cruise control, panic brake alert, and all-LED indicators, which are noticeably brighter than the bulb units on the drum variant.

One thing to note about the Glamour X in particular is its EBT (Engine Balancer Technology) engine, shared with the Xtreme 125R. This basically means Hero has added a balancer shaft to cancel out unwanted vibrations.

The Glamour X is also the most powerful bike here, producing 11.3 hp, about half a horsepower more than the Super Splendor and the standard Glamour, thanks to a slightly higher redline of 8250 rpm.

It also has lower ground clearance at 170 mm and slightly less rear suspension travel at 73.5 mm, which means a slightly stiffer ride but better handling and stability while cutting through traffic.
