Royal Enfield has just rolled out official E20 conversion kits for its older BS3 and BS4 motorcycles. This timely move helps owners safely switch to E20 petrol 20 percent ethanol blend as India fully transitions to higher ethanol fuels in 2026. The kits address compatibility issues in pre BS6 models, preventing damage from ethanol’s corrosive nature while keeping classic Royal Enfields on the road.
What are Royal Enfield E20 bike kits?
These are genuine OEM retrofit kits designed specifically for carburetted Unit Construction Engine UCE models. They upgrade the fuel system so older bikes can run on E20 fuel without issues like fuel leaks, hardened rubber parts, or poor running. The kits target BS3 and BS4 350cc bikes and offer solutions for 500cc fuel injected models. All BS6 Royal Enfields launched from 2020 onwards are already E20 compliant and need no modifications.
How much do these kits cost?
Prices are affordable and vary slightly by variant and dealer. The BS3 carburettor kit costs around ₹3,000, while the BS4 version is approximately ₹4,000. Some dealers quote the basic parts kit as low as ₹1,700 to ₹2,000. For fuel injected 500cc models, updated injectors are priced at about ₹2,500. Expect additional labour charges of a few hundred rupees at service centres. Prices may vary by location and are subject to change.
What do these kits contain?
The kits include ethanol resistant upgraded fuel hoses and lines, special seals, O rings, gaskets, and other rubber components that resist swelling, cracking, or degradation from E20. They also feature revised internal carburettor parts such as jets, needles, and calibrated components tuned specifically for the lower energy content and different burning characteristics of 20 percent ethanol blended petrol. Everything is genuine Royal Enfield parts with specific part numbers like RLT00241/A for BS3 and RLT00240/A for BS4.
Can I install them at home?
It is not recommended for most owners to install at home. The job involves opening the carburettor, replacing multiple small seals and hoses, and proper retuning or jetting for smooth running. While mechanically skilled riders with tools might attempt it, improper installation can cause fuel leaks, rough idling, or incorrect fuel mixtures. Royal Enfield strongly advises getting it done at an authorised service centre, where the entire process takes just 10 to 15 minutes plus basic carb cleaning.

Will it extend the life of my bike?
Yes, absolutely. Without the kit, E20 can quickly damage old rubber seals and hoses, leading to leaks, starting issues, and potential engine damage over time. The E20 kit protects the entire fuel system, prevents corrosion related wear, and helps maintain performance and reliability.
