BMW launches the new M 1000 R in India
BMW Motorrad has introduced the BMW M 1000 R in India as a completely built-up unit (CBU). Bookings are now open across authorised BMW Motorrad dealerships and deliveries are scheduled to begin from May 2026 onwards.
“The new BMW M 1000 R is a powerful expression of our M genetics, where a high-performance superbike meets a dynamic roadster. It is meticulously crafted for those who demand uncompromising performance both on the streets and the racetrack. With its unmistakable four-cylinder roar, the new M R is built for riders who relentlessly push their limits. This machine brings the uncompromising standards on M performance to the road, ensuring every ride is an authentic experience of power and precision.”-Mr. Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India
Design and aerodynamics

The design language of the BMW M 1000 R focuses on compact proportions and aggressive styling. The front section features a distinctive dual-flow LED headlight design derived from BMW’s RR models, with the M logo positioned within the air intake between the headlights
A key highlight is the use of aerodynamic M Winglets mounted on the front bodywork. These components generate additional aerodynamic downforce and help improve front-end stability at high speeds. At 220 km/h, the winglets increase the load on the front wheel by approximately 11 kg, helping keep the motorcycle planted during hard acceleration and fast cornering.
The front mudguard integrates brake ducts designed to optimise airflow around the fork legs and brake callipers. BMW has also equipped the motorcycle with the M Quick-action throttle, which reduces the angle of rotation required to reach full throttle.
Engine and performance

Powering the BMW M 1000 R is a 999 cc water-cooled inline four-cylinder engine developed for high performance riding. The engine produces 210 hp at 13,750 rpm and delivers 113 Nm of torque at 11,100 rpm.
This output allows the motorcycle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.2 seconds while reaching a top speed of around 280 km/h. BMW’s ShiftCam technology plays a crucial role in delivering strong performance across the rev range by adjusting valve timing and lift.
The engine is further enhanced with titanium valves, a revised exhaust-side spring assembly, lighter cam followers and optimised camshafts. The intake system also uses shorter intake funnels to improve charge exchange at high engine speeds, supporting the engine’s high-revving performance.
Electronics and rider assistance systems
The BMW M 1000 R features a comprehensive electronics suite designed to support both road and track riding. A large 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster provides clear information and includes a start-up animation with the M logo along with a redesigned rev counter display. The system also offers an OBD interface for the M GPS Datalogger and M GPS Laptrigger.
Multiple riding modes are available, including Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race and Race Pro1–3. These modes allow riders to adjust several parameters such as engine response, engine brake, traction control, wheelie control and braking behaviour. The system relies on a six-axis sensor box that constantly monitors the motorcycle’s movement.
Track-focused features include Launch Control for rapid race starts and a pit-lane limiter for maintaining precise speeds in pit lane environments. Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) has also been revised using strategies derived from BMW’s RR models, improving traction management particularly in Race mode when riding on track.

BMW offers an optional M Competition Package for the BMW M 1000 R, adding several motorsport-inspired components and carbon fibre elements.
