August 2026 Two Wheeler Sales As Per Vahan

India’s two-wheeler market continues to show resilience, with the mass segment holding steady under the dominance of Hero and Honda while Royal Enfield firmly controls the premium space.

Despite seasonal fluctuations and limited breakout growth, emerging opportunities in affordable EVs and adventure motorcycles point to a more competitive and diversified future ahead.

Here's a detailed look at how major two-wheeler manufacturers in India performed in August 2026.

The EV segment sold just under 4 lakh units in the first eight months of FY2026. It is still a small part of the overall two-wheeler market, but growth is starting to look more steady and sustainable.

Ather Energy leads the segment with 2.29 lakh units, making it the biggest EV two-wheeler brand by volume. Sales peaked at 36,614 units in June before settling between 27,000 and 31,000 units a month.

With the launch of the Konarc, Ather has received more pre-orders than it can currently handle. Its production capacity is around 35,000 units a month, while pre-orders have reportedly crossed 50,000, driven largely by interest in the new model.

Ather will need to ramp up production, strengthen deliveries and expand its service network quickly. Otherwise, long waiting periods and stretched service centres could create the kind of customer experience issues Ola has faced.

Ola Electric has had a tougher journey. Sales fell to just 4,176 units in May, but then recovered to 16,272 units by September and stayed above 13,000 units after that. The recovery is encouraging, although the brand still needs to rebuild buyer confidence.

Greaves Electric has also been quietly gaining ground. Monthly sales crossed 10,000 units from September, helped by demand in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where affordable and practical EVs are finding more buyers. Simple Energy and Ultraviolette are still much smaller players, with combined monthly sales of just over 2,000 units, but both are showing steady growth.

The bigger picture is fairly clear. If October and November volumes stay above 50,000 units a month across the segment, electric two-wheeler sales could reach an annual run rate of 6 to 7 lakh units. That is still small compared with the overall market, but it is becoming harder to ignore.

For many buyers, the biggest concern is no longer price or range. It is confidence in service and after-sales support. How manufacturers build their networks over the next 12 months could have a major impact on EV adoption.

The mass-market numbers give a good idea of how India's two-wheeler market is moving. Hero MotoCorp and Honda together sold more than 76 lakh units in the first eight months. The six biggest players in this segment, Hero, Honda, TVS, Bajaj, Yamaha and Suzuki, account for more than 91% of total two-wheeler sales.

Hero MotoCorp remains the leader with 39.28 lakh units. However, its monthly sales have declined from a July peak of 5.6 lakh units to 4.1 lakh in November. Some of this is seasonal, while some could be linked to an ageing core product range that is still going through updates.

Honda is close behind with 37.6 lakh units and has been more consistent from month to month. Its strong scooter portfolio gives it a larger urban customer base, which makes sales less dependent on the festive season.

TVS is another brand worth watching. It has remained strong throughout the eight months, while expanding across EVs, premium commuters and export markets. That mix could make its business more resilient over time.

Bajaj has seen the biggest swings in monthly sales. It went from 2.26 lakh units in June to 1.57 lakh in November. Its stronger presence in rural markets makes it more sensitive to the slowdown that usually follows the festive season.

Suzuki has been one of the most consistent players. It sold more than 1 lakh units every month during this period. Yamaha has also maintained a steady performance, with monthly sales mostly between 61,000 and 68,000 units.

The mass market is not struggling, but it is not seeing a major growth breakout either. A stronger recovery in rural incomes could help push volumes higher.

Another possible growth driver is the rise of affordable electric commuters, which is why most major two-wheeler makers are accelerating their EV plans.

The premium two-wheeler market is largely dominated by Royal Enfield. The company sold 7.87 lakh units between April and November, accounting for nearly 92% of the segment.

Royal Enfield's monthly sales have been remarkably consistent. It started strong with 1.12 lakh units in April, dipped to 86,796 in August and then recovered to the mid-90,000 range in October and November. The company also appears to have become better at managing dealer inventory and dispatches, making its sales pattern more predictable.

Classic Legends, which sells Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles, is a distant second with 37,836 units during the period. Monthly sales have stayed between roughly 4,200 and 5,300 units. The brand has recovered some stability after a difficult FY2024, but it still needs a stronger product to take meaningful share from Royal Enfield.

Piaggio, with Aprilia and Vespa, sold 26,457 units. Sales have remained fairly flat, showing that the brand has a loyal customer base but is not seeing much growth.

BMW India sold 3,607 units during the eight months, or around 450 bikes a month. For BMW, the premium market is more about brand image and positioning than chasing large volumes.

The more interesting question is what happens above Royal Enfield.

Triumph's Scrambler 400X and Harley-Davidson's push into the mid-size motorcycle market are creating more competition in the space above RE's traditional territory.

If this segment continues to grow, Royal Enfield could face stronger competition at the higher end of its portfolio for the first time in years.

India’s two-wheeler market is heading towards steady growth, with SIAM data pointing to stronger demand across both urban and rural markets. The biggest growth opportunity will likely come from adventure motorcycles and electric two-wheelers, as buyers look for more capable bikes and affordable EVs.

The EV race is also shifting towards traditional manufacturers. TVS and Bajaj are already gaining significant EV share, while Hero MotoCorp is expanding its Vida business and has committed more than Rs 1,500 crore towards EVs and scooters. Hero has also strengthened its position in Ather, taking its stake to around 32.8% after a fresh Rs 1,758 crore investment.

This suggests the next phase of India's EV market will not be dominated only by new-age EV companies. Large, established two-wheeler makers have the money, manufacturing capacity and dealer networks to compete aggressively, which could make the market much more competitive over the next few years.
