Kia Sorento 

Kia has confirmed the Kia Sorento India launch for September 4, 2026, and bookings opened in August at ₹25,000. What makes the Sorento interesting is where Kia has placed it. 

It sits on a monocoque platform, so it rides lower and drives more like a big Carens than a Fortuner, which suits buyers who spend most of their time in the city. The 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid is the real story, because it gives the segment a proper petrol option that does not drink fuel, while the 2.2-litre diesel keeps highway loyalists happy. 

Local assembly is what makes ₹40 – 50 Lakh possible. The gamble is whether buyers will pay Fortuner money for a Kia badge, and the 6-seat captain-chair layout is clearly aimed at families who would otherwise pick a Kodiaq.

Maruti Baleno 2026 (Facelift)

The new Baleno was shown on July 29 and gets its price on September 5. This is a bigger update than the last one. The headline change is under the bonnet: the old K12 engine makes way for the Swift's newer three-cylinder Z12E, which is lighter and more efficient but also a little noisier at idle, something buyers used to the smooth four-cylinder will notice. 

A CNG automatic is a first for the segment and could be the volume driver. ADAS is coming too, which has not been seen on a hatchback at this price. Expect ₹6 – 9.5 Lakh. The Baleno has been Nexa's bread and butter since 2015, and this Baleno 2026 update is timed to hold that position through the festive months before the i20 responds.

BMW 7 Series Facelift and i7

Confirmed for September 11, 2026, with the petrol 7 Series and electric i7 launching together. This is a light mid-cycle refresh of the G70 generation that arrived in India in 2023, so do not expect a new car. What buyers actually get is updated lighting, refined trim, and the latest iDrive software, while the 31-inch theatre screen and reclining rear seats remain the reason anyone buys one. 

The i7 is the more interesting half. It has quietly become the default electric limousine for CEOs and hotel fleets, and BMW India has sold more i7s than most people expect. Pricing from around ₹1.85 Crore keeps it level with the Mercedes S-Class and EQS, and the timing pushes it into the year-end corporate buying window.

Mahindra Thar Facelift

Spy shots from mid-2026 show the new Thar three-door with a fresh front bumper, revised grille, and five-spoke alloys, so the update is real even if the October timing is an estimate. The context is that the three-door has been losing ground since the Thar Roxx arrived in 2024. 

The Roxx gave buyers five doors, a bigger cabin, and better features for not much more money, and three-door sales dipped. This facelift is Mahindra's answer: keep the two-door as the purist's choice while fixing the cabin, which currently feels dated next to the Roxx, with a larger touchscreen and better materials. Engines stay put, which is fine because nobody complained about them. At ₹9.5 – 17 Lakh, the three-door remains the cheaper way into a Thar.

Maruti XL6 Facelift

Suzuki revealed the updated XL7, the Indonesian version of the XL6, at GIIAS on July 29, so there is no mystery about the new XL6 design. It gets a wider gloss-black grille, new 16-inch alloys, a bigger 9-inch touchscreen, and new dashboard trim. India launch is expected in October, though Maruti has not said so. Two things matter for Indian buyers. First, the India car keeps the newer K15C engine, not the older K15B Indonesia uses, so it will drive better than the car shown at the auto show. Second, the six-seat captain-chair layout stays, which is the entire reason the XL6 exists over the Ertiga. Expect ₹11.5 – 14.5 Lakh. The CNG version, with its 26 km/kg claim, will likely remain the fleet favourite.

Honda Elevate Facelift

Honda committed to a second-half 2026 launch for the new Elevate, and with the City facelift done in May, the Elevate is next, most likely in October. The Elevate has been a quiet disappointment. It launched in 2023 with a good chassis and a refined engine but lost buyers to the Creta and Seltos on features and cabin design. 

This facelift is Honda's chance to fix that with a bigger screen, better ADAS, and a fresher face. The big question is the hybrid. Honda already sells the e:HEV in the City, and putting it in the Elevate would give it a real advantage over the Grand Vitara's older hybrid. At ₹15.3 – 20.5 Lakh, it needs the hybrid to justify the top end of that range.

New Toyota Fortuner (Next-Generation)

This is the one to be careful about. Spy shots of the new Fortuner 2026 have been circulating since February, first from Thailand showing a connected tail-lamp bar and revised tailgate, then front-end shots in April. The car is real, and it moves to the new IMV ladder-frame platform that underpins the ninth-generation Hilux already launched in India. 

Expect a flatter bonnet, Hilux-style face, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, ADAS, and the 2.8-litre diesel gaining mild-hybrid assistance. 

The catch is timing. Global debut is expected in late 2026, but a Fortuner India launch in 2026 is unlikely; 2027 is the realistic bet. Pricing around ₹34 – 50 Lakh would keep it above the Sorento, which gets several months of a clear run.

VinFast VF3

VinFast has confirmed the VF3 India launch for the second half of 2026, with November the most reported month. Context matters here. The Vietnamese brand entered India in 2025 with the VF6 and VF7, built at its Thoothukudi plant, and those have sold slowly because they are priced against established Hyundai and Mahindra EVs. 

The VF3 is the reset. It is a tiny two-door electric city car that became a cult hit in Vietnam, with a boxy design, roughly 200 km of real-world range, and a cabin stripped to the basics. At ₹7.5 – 10 Lakh, it is aimed directly at the MG Comet, which currently has that space to itself. If VinFast prices it right, this is the car that decides whether the brand survives in India.

New Hyundai i20 (Facelift)

December 2026 is a rumoured date for the new i20 and Hyundai has not confirmed anything, so treat this as the least certain entry on the list. The reason it is here is competitive logic. The Baleno gets a new engine, a CNG automatic, and ADAS in September, and the current i20 has not been touched since 2023. 

Hyundai does not usually let Maruti hold that kind of advantage for long in a segment it cares about. When it comes, expect a redesigned face in line with the new Venue, a bigger screen, and possibly Hyundai's own ADAS suite. The 1.2-litre petrol continues. Pricing around ₹7 – 12 Lakh would keep it slightly above the Baleno, as it has always been. If December slips, expect early 2027.
