F1 Belgian GP 2026 Preview, India Timings, and Where to Watch

Following a dramatic British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Formula 1 heads to the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium for Round 10 of the 2026 season.

This is a standard race weekend with 2 practice sessions on Friday, a third on Saturday morning, and qualifying on Saturday afternoon. The 44-lap race takes place on Sunday, 19 July, at 18:30 IST.

Spa-Francorchamps is the longest circuit on the F1 calendar at 7.004 km, set deep in the Ardennes Forest.

It is famous for its dramatic elevation changes, long straights, and iconic corners, from the flat-out compression of Eau Rouge and Raidillon to the long left-hander at Pouhon and the Bus Stop chicane at the end of the lap. It is a low-to-medium downforce circuit, which makes straight-line speed and efficient aerodynamics especially important this weekend.

Charles Leclerc won a chaotic British Grand Prix at Silverstone, taking his 9th career victory and Ferrari's 2nd win in 3 races. He made a perfect start from 2nd on the grid, passed polesitter Kimi Antonelli into Turn 1, and led for most of the race before a late Safety Car brought the field together.

Antonelli had looked set to fight back after pitting and closing on the Ferrari, but a left front wheel shield failure on Lap 41 ended his challenge. He eventually crossed the line 15th before a track limits penalty dropped him outside the points entirely.

George Russell finished 2nd, benefiting from the Safety Car by staying out on track when others pitted. Lewis Hamilton completed an all-Ferrari and Mercedes top 3, finishing 0.7 seconds behind his former teammate, though he did receive a post-race reprimand for a yellow flag infringement.

Antonelli's lead has been cut to 25 points after failing to score at Silverstone. Russell is just 1 race win away from the championship lead, while Hamilton in 3rd is only 32 points off the top. The title fight is more open than it has been at any point this season.

Ferrari has also closed the gap in the Constructors' Championship. Leclerc's win combined with Hamilton's podium brought them 22 points closer to Mercedes, and the Scuderia now trail by 78 points with 13 races to go.

What Can We Expect From SPA GP?

Antonelli's reliability problem - The 19-year-old is comfortably the fastest driver on his day, but this is now his 2nd race without a point due to car issues. At Silverstone he had the weekend under control, winning the Sprint and taking pole, before the wheel shield failure unravelled everything. Mercedes needs to resolve this before Antonelli's lead becomes something more difficult to recover from.

Verstappen's future - Max Verstappen crashed out of the British GP after his rear wing failed to close properly for a 2nd successive weekend, and he was publicly furious about it. Reports during the Silverstone build-up confirmed his representatives had held talks with McLaren for what I think is likely a WEC deal not F1

Ferrari's Macarena EVO wing - Ferrari is bringing a revised version of its rear wing concept to Spa. The update is designed to reduce drag on Spa's long straights, where Mercedes still holds a small straight-line advantage, while retaining the downforce the SF-26 needs through Eau Rouge and the fast corners. Estimates suggest it could add up to 11 km/h of top speed under the right conditions. If it works, this weekend will give a real indication of how close Ferrari is to Mercedes in race trim for the second half of the season.

Team upgrades at Spa - Several teams are bringing significant packages. Mercedes has a new front wing endplate and rear corner tweak. McLaren has brought the latest iteration of its low-drag rear wing to improve straight-line efficiency. Red Bull is expected to introduce updates as the team looks to reverse a difficult run. Aston Martin and Williams are also bringing larger packages, with Aston testing a new front wing assembly and Williams introducing revised floor fences and floor edge geometry.

First wet race of 2026 - Current forecasts point to rain across all 3 days of the weekend, with Friday and Saturday carrying a 50 to 67 percent chance of precipitation. No competitive session this season has yet been run in fully wet conditions, which means Spa could provide the first real data point on how the 2026 cars behave in the rain. Several drivers including Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly, Liam Lawson, and Arvid Lindblad have tested in wet conditions outside of race weekends, but this will be a different challenge entirely.

Weather Forecast for the 2026 Belgian GP

Spa's weather is notoriously difficult to predict, and this weekend looks no different. Current forecasts point to rain across all 3 days, with Friday carrying the highest chance of showers at around 50 to 67 percent. Temperatures are expected to peak at 23 to 25 degrees Celsius through the weekend.

Winds are forecast from the north-west, which means a tailwind down the Kemmel Straight and a headwind into the Bus Stop chicane. The conditions at Spa can vary from one sector to the next, with the Ardennes Forest often keeping moisture in the area around the back of the circuit while other sections remain dry.

Where to Watch F1 Belgian GP in India?

Every session can be streamed live on FanCode and F1 TV in India.

The last race before the summer break has historically been one of the most dramatic on the calendar, and with the title fight this tight and rain in the forecast, Spa 2026 has every reason to be the same.
