4th-Gen Skoda Superb Revealed With a 2.0 TDI Diesel, Deliveries Set for Mid-2027

Skoda has unveiled the 4th-generation Superb in India, alongside the facelifted Slavia and the return of the Octavia RS. The Superb will arrive as a completely built unit import in the sole Laurin and Klement trim. Customers can now register their interest at dealerships, with deliveries expected in Q2 2027.

This also marks the return of a diesel engine under a Volkswagen Group nameplate in India for the first time since the group exited the fuel type ahead of BS6 in 2020. CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) norms remain a structural barrier for VW Group to sell diesels at meaningful volumes locally, which means this will be a limited CBU run, not the start of a broad diesel comeback from the group.

Exterior and Interior

2027 Skoda Superb side profile

Up front, a butterfly grille with chrome surround is paired with LED Matrix headlamps that get a cornering function and welcome animations. Wraparound LED taillamps mirror the same light signature at the rear, with the Skoda wordmark across the bootlid. Chrome window surrounds and L&K badging sit on the front fenders.

Inside, the black-and-cognac cabin shares its dashboard layout with the Kodiaq, with a 12.9-inch infotainment screen and a 10-inch digital driver display. The gear selector moves to the steering column, freeing up the centre console for storage and the wireless charger. Rear passengers get dedicated AC vents, USB-C ports and the Sleep Package.

Powertrain

2027 Skoda Superb diesel powertrain

The Superb gets a 2.0-litre TDI making 110 kW (149.5 hp/148 PS) and 360 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and front-wheel drive. Skoda claims 0-100 kmph in 9.2 seconds, with a top speed electronically capped at 225 kmph. The more powerful 193 PS AWD variant shown at the 2025 Auto Expo has been ruled out for India.

148 PS is noticeably lower than what several mainstream diesel SUVs offer at lower price points, and prospective buyers will ask questions about that. There are also genuine concerns about long-term serviceability of a European diesel CBU in Indian conditions, given VW Group has had no diesel presence here through the BS6 era.

Progressive Dynamic Steering and Dynamic Chassis Control are standard, the latter continuously adjusting handling character based on driving speed, road conditions and selected drive mode.

Launch, Pricing and Rivals

Skoda Brand Director Ashish Gupta has pointed to the India-EU Free Trade Agreement as a key factor in the launch timing. Import duties currently sit at 70%. The FTA would halve that in year one, though rupee depreciation of around 20% over the past six months has offset much of that benefit. Skoda wants the FTA's final duty structure confirmed before locking in pricing, which explains the Q2 2027 delivery timeline.

The previous Superb, brought to India as a petrol CBU in 2024, struggled commercially, making pricing the critical variable this time. At this positioning, the Toyota Camry is the only direct rival, though buyers stretching their budget could also consider entry-level variants of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
