The Kia Sorento arrives in India as the brand's first proper three-row premium SUV, with prices ranging from Rs 27.99 lakh to Rs 40.39 lakh (ex-showroom). There are nine variants spread across three main trims, HTE, HTK, and HTX, with optional packs adding extra convenience tech, ADAS, and the Black Line styling treatment. Buyers can choose between 6 and 7-seater layouts.
Power comes from either a 2.2-litre diesel making 193 PS and 442 Nm with an 8-speed DCT, or a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid combining 180 PS and 65 PS from the electric motor, paired with a 6-speed automatic. Both get 2WD as standard, while AWD is available on HTK and becomes standard from HTX upwards. Claimed fuel economy figures are not yet available at launch.
On the safety front, the Sorento gets up to 10 airbags and Level 2+ ADAS on the higher trims, while the dual 12.3-inch curved display is offered from the HTK onwards. It goes up against the Volkswagen Tayron, Skoda Kodiaq, and Jeep Meridian.
Here is every Sorento variant explained.

Sorento HTE and HTE (O)

HTE is a 7-seater only base trim, and that single constraint already tells you who it is for. The 12.3-inch touchscreen is present but it sits alone, without the dual-screen curved panel that arrives on HTK. You also get 6 speakers, 18-inch alloys, no sunroof, no ventilated seats, no 360-degree camera, and a 6-way power passenger seat.
The HTE (O) convenience pack addresses the most felt absences in daily use. It adds the panoramic sunroof, smart power tailgate, 8-way power passenger seat, and front ventilated seats with 3-step cooling. In Indian summers, ventilated seats on a car at this price are not a luxury addition.
If HTE is your only option, the (O) pack is worth having. Without it, the cabin does not feel like it belongs at this price. But if HTK is within reach at all, the upgrade there is substantial enough that the HTE (O) starts to feel like money spent on the wrong variant.

Sorento HTK, HTK (A), and HTK (A) Black Line

HTK is where the Sorento properly justifies its price. The dual 12.3-inch curved display panel arrives here, alongside the 12-speaker Bose system, 360-degree camera with blind view monitor, panoramic sunroof, smart power tailgate, front ventilated seats, 19-inch alloys, LED fog lamps, and satin chrome skid plates. The 6-seater captain seat configuration also unlocks for the first time in the lineup.
HTK (A) adds Level 2 ADAS with 21 features. It is a meaningful safety addition for city and mixed driving. However, buyers who spend major time on expressways should note that highway driving assist and navigation-based smart cruise control are absent here and only arrive with the HTX (A) AWD. For pure highway use, HTK (A) covers the basics but does not go further.
HTK (A) Black Line adds blacked-out emblems, alloy wheels, fender garnish, and beltline. Nothing mechanical or inside the cabin changes. It is the right pick if the chrome-accented look feels too restrained, without needing to move to the HTX tier to get it.

Sorento HTX AWD, HTX (A) AWD, HTX Black Line AWD, and HTX (A) Black Line AWD

HTX AWD is a meaningfully different car from the HTK, not just a feature list upgrade. The interior moves to the exclusive Premium Black and Olive Brown leatherette with embossing, only available from this trim. Both front seats get 10-way power adjustment with lumbar and relaxation mode, and the driver seat adds an ergo function, memory with ORVM and HUD integration, and sliding headrests. The airbag count rises from 7 to 10, adding rear seat side airbags and a centre side airbag.
Second-row passengers get ventilated seats with 3-step cooling, a first in the segment and a feature that matters more than most on a car where the rear seat is often the priority. Other additions include a windshield HUD, digital IRVM, built-in navigation, Kia AI Assistant with real-time generative AI, Digital Key 2.0, remote smart parking assist, a 220V power outlet, a front and rear dashcam, and AWD with snow, mud, and sand terrain modes.
HTX (A) AWD adds Level 2+ ADAS with 29 features, which is 8 more than HTK (A). The HTX AWD without the (A) pack already has remote smart parking assist standard, so the upgrade here is specifically about highway-grade driver assistance, not general safety coverage.
The Black Line pack on both HTX AWD and HTX (A) AWD adds the same blacked-out exterior treatment as on HTK (A) and also opens up the Dark Gun Metal matte colour, exclusive to HTX and above. If you are spending at this level, the Black Line is the more distinctive of the two standard HTX options.
Unless the price gap between HTX AWD and HTX (A) AWD is a hard constraint, the (A) is the variant worth closing on.
