The Norton Atlas marks the British brand's entry into India's adventure motorcycle market. It is powered by a 585cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin delivering 69 bhp and 57.5 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox featuring a quickshifter and slipper clutch.

Built for balanced on- and light off-road performance, the Atlas utilizes a steel trellis frame that uses the engine for structural support.

This chassis is paired with fully adjustable KYB suspension offering 180mm of travel, a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination, and dual front disc brakes with radial calipers.

The electronics suite centers on a Bosch six-axis IMU that enables lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, and five ride modes, all managed via an 8-inch TFT touchscreen with built-in navigation and Norton Rider app connectivity.

Rounding out the premium features are full LED lighting, keyless ignition, a USB-C port, an 845mm seat height, and four distinct color choices: Matrix Black, Trophy Silver, Verona Green and Sinopia Orange.

Engine, Performance and Mileage

The Atlas is powered by a 585cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, producing 69 bhp at 9,300 rpm and 57.5 Nm of torque at 7,300 rpm, fed by sequential fuel injection with a ride-by-wire throttle.

This power is delivered through a 6-speed gearbox featuring an assist-and-slip wet clutch and a standard bi-directional quickshifter for clutchless shifts.

Meeting EURO5+ and BS6 emission norms, the engine delivers a certified economy of 23 km/l, which, paired with the 15.4-litre fuel tank, ensures a substantial riding range.

design

The Atlas reflects Norton's modern design language. Rather than reviving an old silhouette, the design takes a fresh approach to Norton's identity, keeping fixings and visible clutter to a minimum.

At the front, twin projector LED headlights feature speed-sensitive DRLs, and are paired with handguard-integrated indicators for a clean cockpit, while the windscreen provides aerodynamically optimized wind protection.

To the side, it gets a muscular fuel tank and side panels designed to give the bike a sense of forward movement, with the radiator positioned behind a "chimney" that channels engine heat away from the rider.

Ergonomics focus on rider customization, featuring tapered aluminum handlebars, a one-piece seat, adjustable brake and clutch levers, and aluminum footpegs with removable rubber inserts.

At the rear, a compact 3-in-1 LED setup integrates the taillight and turn signals into a single unit, complete with a dynamic safety feature that flashes under hard braking to alert trailing traffic.

safety

The Atlas features a Bosch six-axis IMU that enables lean-sensitive ABS, cornering traction control, cornering cruise control, wheelie control, and rear slide control to ensure stability.

For braking, it features twin 310mm semi-floating front discs with radially mounted Bybre calipers and a 270mm rear disc with a Bybre caliper.

Five ride modes: Urban, Rain, Sport, Tour, and Enduro, let riders adjust throttle response, ABS, and traction control for the terrain.

High-speed visibility is handled by LED twin-projector headlamps with speed-based intensity and a 3-in-1 LED taillight featuring dynamic brake activation.

Finally, BS6-compliant Atlas is backed by a 36-month warranty with Norton Roadside Assist.

competition

The Atlas sits in the premium middleweight adventure-touring segment, where it closely lines up against the Royal Enfield Himalayan 750, the Kawasaki Versys 650 and the Triumph Tiger Sport 660.

The Himalayan 750 will undercut the Atlas on price, leveraging a massive Indian service network for lower running costs. However, the Atlas counters with more power (69 bhp/57.5Nm vs an expected 55-60 PS), a dominant 8-inch TFT display, and a premium electronics suite featuring a standard six-axis IMU and cornering cruise control: both unconfirmed for the RE.

The Versys 650 offers a larger 649cc engine (67 PS/61Nm), a 21-litre tank, and established reliability in India. The Atlas eclipses it on tech, adding a standard quickshifter, a massive 8-inch TFT over the Versys's 4.3-inch screen, and a six-axis IMU that enables lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, and wheelie control, none of which feature on the Kawasaki.

The Tiger Sport 660 leads in outright performance with its 80 bhp inline-three engine and larger 18.6-litre tank. The Atlas counters with off-road versatility via its 19/17-inch wheel combo (versus the Tiger's road-biased 17-inch wheels) and advanced electronics like standard cornering cruise and wheelie control, both entirely absent on the Triumph.
