Yamaha YZF R2 Launched in India at Rs 2.30 Lakh

Yamaha has finally brought the long-awaited YZF R2 to India.

Priced from Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new motorcycle slots above the popular R15 V4 in Yamaha’s lineup and gives riders a proper 200cc supersport option with the R-series styling and character.

The R2 is available in three variants: Base, Mid and M. It takes direct aim at the KTM RC 200, while also competing with the Hero Karizma XMR and Suzuki Gixxer SF 250.

Design

The R2 follows Yamaha’s familiar aggressive R-series design language.

It features a sharp twin-LED DRL setup with a projector headlight, clean aerodynamic fairing, sculpted fuel tank and a sleek tail section. The overall stance looks unmistakably like a member of the bigger R family, even though it is one of the smaller models.

Colour options are linked to the variants. The Base gets Metallic Blue and Dark Bluish Gray, Mid is offered in Matte White Pearl and Racing Blue, and the top M variant comes in Metallic Gray.

Engine and Performance

At the heart of the R2 is a 204 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 26.5 PS at 10,000 rpm and 19.1 Nm at 8,000 rpm.

Power is sent through a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.

Compared to the R15 V4, this motor offers noticeably more power and torque while retaining the linear and refined character Yamaha is known for.

Features and Hardware

Equipment levels are strong for the segment.

All variants get full-LED lighting, a 5-inch TFT console with smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts, and support for Yamaha’s Y-Connect app.

The chassis uses a steel tube diamond frame. Suspension duties are handled by a 37 mm inverted fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear.

The top M variant adds keyless ignition, adjustable front and rear suspension, and adjustable levers.

Other highlights include three riding modes (Street, Rain and Sport), switchable traction control, dual-channel ABS and a bidirectional quickshifter.

Braking is managed by a four-piston Nissin caliper up front and a Bybre unit at the rear, with 17-inch alloy wheels shod in MRF tyres. Kerb weight stands at 149 kg.

The Yamaha YZF R2 is now available at authorised Yamaha dealerships across India. Deliveries are scheduled to commence from mid-September 2026.
