Yamaha R2 Teased Before Launch on August 27, Expected at Around Rs 2.20 Lakh

Yamaha has shared another teaser of the R2 on its official Instagram ahead of the August 27 launch. Pre-bookings are already open on Yamaha's official website, and the company says one of the first 100 customers will receive a special surprise. Bookings are already open at Rs 10,000 and is fully refundable, with cancellations available from 5th September 2026.
The teaser shows the R2 dressed in Yamaha's signature blue with what appears to be a 3D tank emblem. No full design has been confirmed yet, but with the launch less than a day away, that wait is almost over.

Engine and Features

The R2 is expected to use a 200cc liquid-cooled engine built on the R15's 155cc unit, producing around 25 PS and 20 Nm, with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch. Expected features include a TFT display with Bluetooth, ride modes, a bidirectional quickshifter, dual-channel ABS, and switchable traction control.

At around Rs 2.20 lakh, the R2 takes direct aim at the KTM RC 200, which has sat at the top of this segment without a proper Yamaha rival for years.
