Yamaha R2 Pre-bookings Open Ahead of 27 August Launch

Yamaha India has officially opened pre-bookings for its upcoming R2 sportsbike in India, with the launch confirmed for 27 August 2026. Buyers can reserve one via the Yamaha website for Rs 10,000, which gets adjusted against the final on-road price at delivery.

The launch follows Yamaha’s #RInstinct teaser campaign, which uses the tagline “We R On Our Way” and the brand’s R-series logo. The campaign has stopped short of naming the bike, but the R2 is expected to be the model being teased. Yamaha has also named the launch event “R Instinct.”

Customers who pre-book before the launch date get priority delivery, subject to stock availability. The booking amount is fully refundable, though the refund process only kicks in from 5 September 2026, and needs to be handled offline at the dealership.

What to Expect?

The R2 is expected to be powered by a 200-220cc single-cylinder engine, likely producing close to 25 bhp and 19 Nm. That would put it on par with, or slightly ahead of, its two main rivals, the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR 210, both of which make around 25 bhp.

One area where the R2 could genuinely stand out is weight. The R15 V4, which is built on the same platform the R2 will draw from, weighs just 141 kg. Compare that to the KTM RC 200 at 160 kg and the Karizma at 163.5 kg, and the R2 has the makings of a noticeably more agile machine even if the power figures end up similar.

Pricing is expected to start somewhere around Rs 2 to 2.2 lakh ex-showroom. The R2 will be manufactured in India and also exported to select global markets.
