Oben Electric has launched the all-new Rorr EVO electric motorcycle, expanding its lineup of Rorr models, which consisted of the standard Rorr, alongside the EZ and Sigma models.

The Rorr EVO achieves a top speed of 110 kmph, with acceleration from 0 to 40 kmph in 3 seconds, while generating a torque of 250 Nm on the wheel instantly, all possible from the 9 kW motor.

In addition, the available colours are - Neutron Blue, Pulse Red, Magnetic Black, and Photon White.

Price of the model is ₹99,999 (ex-showroom), offered to first 10,000 customers only, which then will be bumped to ₹1.25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Bookings are open at ₹777, where test rides and deliveries are scheduled to begin from June, across 150 showrooms nationwide.

Here are the key features of the Rorr EVO you need to know about:

Smaller But More Powerful Motor

The headline of the bike from the event seems to be the 9 kW peak power achieved from Oben's second-generation motor, which is a proprietary IPMSM unit and is mounted at the mid body.

Compared to the previous generation, Oben claims that it uses 33% less active magnetic material and is 40% smaller in physical size, which is impressive as it delivers 20% more power output.

Not just this, but the motor is rated IP68, meaning that it will get full protection from dust and will be able to survive continued water submersion.

This is a rare addition, which would be especially useful in India, where monsoon flooding is a major problem.

Chain Drive Transmission

Rorr EVO Chain Drive At The Rear

EV motorcycles typically use direct drives, while premium models often feature belt drives. However the Rorr EVO seems to sit in the mid-EV segment, with its single stage reduction chain drive.

With this transmission coupled with the highly efficient motor, Oben claims it delivers 10% improvement in range efficiency over the previous drivetrain, which also helps the bike to deliver an IDC range of 180km, with a claimed 150 km real-world range from a 3.4 kWh battery.

It also helps in delivering a higher torque of 250 Nm, which is available instantly, typical of performance electric bikes.

LFP Battery With High Heat Resistance

Oben Electric has been using a LFP batteries since its inception in 2020, which puts them ahead of several competitors who are just now moving away from NMC cells, to achieve a battery lifecycle that is almost twice as long, better thermal stability and safety.

As for the safety, Oben has combined their LFP batteries with their proprietary MHX technology, claiming twice as much heat resistance on the Rorr EVO.

To demonstrate this, they showed a pre-recorded test clip, which showed the battery removed outside the Rorr EVO with its wheels still spinning, and exposed the battery to a flamethrower until it reached 280 degrees Celsius.

The battery did not catch fire, or explode in a dramatic fashion, rather, the EVO kept running.

Adding to the impressiveness, Oben is offering 8 years warranty on the battery, claiming this was achievable due to the LFP technology.

ARX Platform

Putting a LFP battery, that are usually used inside cars, seems tough due to their largeness and heaviness, which is a challenge if ergonomics, design, stability and weight are to be maintained.

Oben's ARX platform is designed particularly for managing these variables, and the resulting figures of the bike seem to be reasonable - 140 kg kerb weight, 780 mm seat height, 200 mm ground clearance, and 230 mm water wading depth.

Notably the seat is also 680 mm long, which Oben claims to be the longest in the segment, along with a 262 mm wide pillion for a more comfortable ride.

SMARTIQ Ride Mode

Rorr EVO 5-inch Colour TFT Smart Digital Console

Oben Electric along with the three ride modes - City, Eco, and Havoc, has added a fourth riding mode called SmartIQ.

It serves as an AI range booster, which uses a digital twin of the vehicle and riding patterns data from onboard sensors, which the bike analyses to adjust the performance of the Rorr EVO in real time.

Oben claims it delivers up to 15% more range from the same battery, which when combined with the 10% boost from the new drivetrain, totals to a 25% improvement in real-world range over the previous generation.
