Bajaj Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS Launched at ₹1.33 Lakh and ₹1.42 Lakh with a 4-Valve Engine

Bajaj Auto has launched the Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS, priced at Rs 1,33,511 and Rs 1,42,585 (ex-showroom). The launch marks 25 years of the Pulsar brand, and these two new variants sit above the existing two-valve N160, which continues to remain on sale.

The biggest upgrade here is the engine. Both models get a new 164.5cc single-cylinder four-valve motor producing 18.5 PS at 9,500 rpm and 14.4 Nm at 8,000 rpm, marking a notable step up from the older two-valve engine's 15.5 bhp.

Still mated to a 5-speed gearbox, this added power allows a 0-60 kmph sprint in just 4.5 seconds, which Bajaj claims makes it the quickest motorcycle in its segment.

The engine is oil-cooled now and gets an Electronic Throttle Body, which Bajaj calls Intelligent Throttle. It unlocks all the electronics. The system introduces four active riding modes (Road, Rain, Sport, and Off-Road) that alter power delivery and throttle response.

Additionally, a new Crawl Technology allows the motorcycle to roll smoothly at low speeds even in higher gears, making stop-and-go city traffic much easier to manage.

The suspension and braking hardware have been upgraded to match the extra performance. Both models now feature 37mm upside-down front forks, up from the 33mm units on the two-valve N160, while the rear monoshock continues. Stopping power improves with a larger 300mm front disc and a new 230mm rear disc.

A wider 130/70-17 radial rear tyre adds better grip, but the front tyre and 14-litre fuel tank stay unchanged. Additionally, the N160 SS features a revised handlebar angle and seat height compared to the S, to improve the overall comfort for longer rides.

What Separates the S from the SS

The N160 S gets an LCD display with Bluetooth and turn-by-turn navigation, single-channel ABS, and fixed levers. The N160 SS steps up to a 5-inch TFT console with full Google Maps mirroring. Bajaj claims this is a first for any sports motorcycle in India.

The SS also adds Wi-Fi connectivity, dual-channel ABS, traction control working through the electronic throttle, and adjustable levers.

Design and Colours

The streetfighter stance stays intact, but the sharper graphics and coloured alloy wheels make these feel noticeably more premium. Three colour options are available, namely Atlantic Blue, Pearl Metallic White, and Brooklyn Black.

The Brooklyn Black is easily the most aggressive of the three. The near-matte black bodywork is contrasted by gloss red alloy wheels and matching red accents and graphics. The overall effect is dark, with the gold-anodised USD forks providing a premium touch against all that black.

The Atlantic Blue stands out for a different reason. Deep blue bodywork is broken up by sharp orange-red graphics on the tank and fairing, giving it a bold two-tone character. The blacked-out alloy wheels with orange rim tape keep it sporty without being overdone. The gold forks again complete the look nicely.

The Pearl Metallic White takes a cleaner direction. The white bodywork is paired with red and dark grey graphics, and the alloy wheels get a black finish with red rim tape. Compared to the other two, this one looks the most visually accessible, though the streetfighter proportions still give it plenty of attitude.

Rivals

The Pulsar N160 S and SS compete closely with the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. While both offer similar riding modes, the Bajaj bikes pull ahead by adding traction control and Google Maps mirroring. Other competitors like the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V, Yamaha FZ-S FI V4, and Suzuki Gixxer 150 trail behind in both power and features.
