Smart Summary for Car Selection
Why Choose Maruti Suzuki Ertiga? Why choose
- Seven seats rather than six, so you can move a larger group when you need to
- The bench second row lets passengers stretch out or lie down on long journeys in a way captain chairs cannot
- Lighter, airier cabin colours make the interior feel more spacious than the XL6's all-black scheme
- All seats fold flat, which turns it into a proper cargo carrier when required
- Cheaper than the XL6 while sharing the same mechanicals, and sold through the wider Arena network
- India's default MPV, which keeps servicing, parts and resale effortless
Why not choose
- Third-row access is awkward because the second row does not tumble forward
- Boot space with all three rows up holds little more than a couple of mid-sized cases
- No diesel, which heavy users genuinely miss for long-distance economy
- The single-tone interior design has started to look dated
- Missing conveniences like an auto-dimming mirror, rear blinds and rear cup holders
Why Choose Maruti Suzuki XL6?Why choose
- The captain chairs are the reason to buy it, and owners repeatedly describe them as far more comfortable than the bench, particularly for elderly passengers
- The gap between the second-row seats makes third-row access easier and the cabin feel less cramped for those behind
- Larger wheels, LED lighting and a better-finished roof liner give it a more premium feel
- Ventilated seats, a surround-view camera and UV-cut glass on higher versions, which owners rate highly
- Sold through the Nexa network, which some buyers prefer, and quieter inside thanks to added insulation
Why not choose
- Six seats only
- With five adults and luggage, the bench-seat Ertiga is the more useful vehicle
- The all-black interior makes the cabin feel closed in and darker than the Ertiga's
- Build quality and refinement are ordinary for the money, and it is not the genuinely premium Ertiga the positioning suggests
- Costs more than the Ertiga for what is mechanically the same vehicle
- The second row still does not tumble forward, so third-row ingress remains tricky
Our Recommendation For Most BuyersMaruti Ertiga
Take the Ertiga when the seventh seat is not negotiable, because that alone settles the decision for a lot of families. The petrol with the manual is the straightforward, efficient choice, while the automatic makes sense if city traffic dominates your driving.
Anyone covering serious monthly distance should look hard at the CNG, which is where this vehicle's running costs become genuinely low, and it is the reason so many owners choose it.
Mid-range versions carry the equipment most families actually use, while the entry car is built to a price and better suited to commercial duty. The bench second row is also the quiet advantage nobody advertises: it carries five adults more comfortably than captain chairs ever will.
Maruti XL6
Everything under the XL6 is Ertiga, so this comes down to the second row and who sits there. Buy it if you routinely carry four or five people rather than seven, and particularly if elderly parents travel with you, because the captain chairs and the walk-through gap transform long journeys for them. T
he same petrol, automatic and CNG choices apply, and the CNG is equally the answer for high monthly running.
Where the XL6 justifies its premium is higher up the range, since the ventilated seats, surround-view camera and better insulation are what actually separate it from the cheaper car. If you need seven belts even occasionally, take the Ertiga instead and save the money.
