Updated on January 21, 2026

This isn't a full generation change, but a heavy mid-cycle refresh aimed at keeping the Hector relevant against the new Sierra and the upcoming 7XO The 2026 model is expected to hit showrooms in early 2026 with a clear focus on "User Experience."

engine and performance

The 2026 Hector has unchanged engines with  Fiat-sourced 2.0-liter diesel engine (170hp) and the 1.5-liter turbo-petrol. The diesel is expected to remain a manual-only affair, which continues to be a missing link in the lineup. However, the petrol CVT is expected to get retuned for better city mileage and smoother power delivery to silence complaints about low fuel efficiency.

interior

Inside, the Hector refresh brings noticeable improvements in layout and ambience. The dashboard now uses a layered design, paired with a new dual tone Ice Grey interior theme. Higher trims and Plus variants offer a tan interior option.

The infotainment leap cements the 2026 Hector's tech edge, headlined by a 14-inch HD touchscreen with 10GB RAM for lag-free operation and an updated UI for intuitive swipes. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto pair seamlessly, plus built-in nav, music streaming, and multi-gesture controls for AC or volume. It now includes swipe gestures for AC and fan control

The i-Smart suite enables app-based remote AC start, geo-fencing, and theft alerts. A 7-inch digital driver's display shows customizable views, with "Hey Birdeye" voice for 360-camera pans. Top variants add head-up display projecting speed and nav. Six-speaker audio fills the cabin crisply, supporting Bluetooth and USB.

exterior

The 2026 Hector adopts MG’s updated Aura design language. Key changes include a new Aura Hex grille with a silver black finish, revised Aura front and rear bumpers, and new Aura sculpted alloy wheels. These updates sharpen the Hector’s road presence without altering its familiar proportions. MG has also introduced new exterior colours, including Celadon Blue and Pearl White, adding freshness to the range.

safety

Safety gets no overhaul but retains robust Level 2 ADAS, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, auto emergency braking, and blind-spot detection for highway peace. Standard across trims: six airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, hill hold/descent, all-disc brakes, and TPMS. Front/rear parking sensors pair with a 360-degree camera offering dynamic guidelines and blind-spot views.

ISOFIX anchors secure child seats, electronic parking brake includes auto-hold for slopes

competition

The 2026 MG Hector stands out in the mid-size SUV crowd with its massive 14-inch touchscreen, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS at a sharp Rs 11.99-19lakh price. It offers big space and loads of features, beating the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta on gadget count while matching their refinement.

Against the punchier Mahindra XUV 7XO and Scorpio N, it feels less powerful but more affordable on top trims. The upcoming Renault Duster promises better mileage with hybrid tech, and Tata Sierra is 50 k cheaper
