Both variants of the i7 share the same 112.5 kWh battery and 250 kW DC fast charging capability. 

The 50 xDrive's dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup is a notable upgrade over the outgoing model's rear-wheel-drive single-motor layout, and its 445 hp and 660 Nm make it meaningfully more capable off the line while the 727 km WLTP range remains the primary metric for most buyers in this variant. 

The M70 xDrive's 680 hp and 1,100 Nm in Sport Boost mode place it among the fastest-accelerating luxury sedans available in India at any price, while still offering a 686 km WLTP range. 

Both come with a complimentary BMW Wallbox home charger.

Additionally, both benefit from adaptive suspension and rear-wheel steering for composed handling and improved low-speed manoeuvrability. Regenerative braking is highly adjustable, supporting efficient one-pedal driving in urban conditions.

The i7 50 xDrive M Sport's 727 km WLTP range is a 103 km improvement over the outgoing model and BMW's claimed best-in-class figure for a luxury electric sedan. 

Real-world Indian urban range will be lower than the WLTP figure depending on ambient temperature, climate system usage, driving speed and style. Owners of the outgoing i7 (101.7 kWh battery) reported real-world urban ranges of 450 to 550 km, so the larger battery should extend this meaningfully.

The M70 xDrive's 686 km WLTP range is slightly lower due to its higher output dual-motor setup. 

For buyers deciding between the two variants, this 41 km WLTP difference is unlikely to be a deciding factor in day-to-day use.

The 250 kW DC fast charging capability is a significant practical advantage. A 10-minute session at a compatible charger adds a claimed 235 km of range, making the i7 one of the fastest-charging luxury electric sedans available in India.

The i7's interior is shared with the petrol 7 Series and receives the same upgrades in this facelift. 

Panoramic Vision replaces the conventional instrument cluster with a wide band of information projected at the base of the windscreen. The 17.9-inch central touchscreen and 14.6-inch passenger display together create the most advanced front cabin architecture in this segment.

The rear cabin is the car's headline proposition. 

Boss mode folds the front passenger seat flat, giving the rear left occupant exceptional legroom. The Executive Lounge seats recline to 43 degrees with full calf and heel support. 

Theatre Screen 2.0 deploys from the roof lining and delivers 8K-quality visuals, paired with the 35-speaker Bowers and Wilkins Dolby Atmos system. Door-mounted touch panels allow rear passengers to control the screen without reaching overhead.

At 500 litres, the boot is competitive for this class. Fortunately, unlike some dedicated EV platforms, the i7's shared architecture with the petrol 7 Series does not sacrifice boot volume for battery placement.

The i7 facelift follows the same design direction as the petrol 7 Series. 

At the front, the illuminated kidney grille is redesigned with horizontal slats and a squarer shape. The split headlamps are carried over but with slimmer DRLs and vertically repositioned main units. The M70 xDrive adds larger front air intakes and M-specific badging.

On the side, it gets revised side skirts and new 20-inch alloy wheels.

At the rear, wider wraparound LED tail-lamps draw influence from BMW's Neue Klasse models. The bumper is cleaner, with a body-coloured diffuser treatment and no visible exhaust outlets.

The overall design is calmer and more resolved than the outgoing model, and the illuminated grille remains the i7's most distinctive identifier at night. 

Colour options include Black Sapphire Metallic, Dravit Grey (BMW Individual), Tanzanit Blue Metallic, Alpine White and additional BMW Individual palette options at extra cost.

The i7 shares the G70 platform with the petrol 7 Series, which holds a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. 

Like its ICE counterpart, the i7 gets 7 airbags as well.

The Level 2 ADAS suite is standard on both variants and includes a reversing assistant that automatically follows the car's last driven forward path when reversing out of tight spaces. The 360-degree camera and remote smartphone parking assist make manoeuvring this 5.4-metre car in confined spaces considerably more manageable.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the i7's primary rival in the electric luxury sedan segment in India. 

The EQS uses a dedicated electric platform with a more aerodynamic one-bow body, and its ARAI-claimed range figure exceeds the i7's WLTP figure on paper, though ARAI and WLTP cycles are not directly comparable. The EQS offers the Hyperscreen interior with three displays under a single glass panel and a larger 610-litre boot. 

The i7 counters with the more dramatic Theatre Screen rear entertainment setup, a more conventional and easier-to-operate cabin layout, and the M70 xDrive performance option. The EQS also has approximately 110 mm of ground clearance, meaningfully lower than the i7's approximate 145 mm, which is a practical concern on Indian roads.

At an identical price point, the i7's ICE sibling, the 7 Series 740 M Sport offers the same cabin experience, including Panoramic Vision, the Theatre Screen and the Bowers and Wilkins audio. Buyers with reliable home or workplace charging will find the i7's total cost of ownership significantly lower over time. 

Those without charging access, or who regularly drive long distances on routes without public chargers, may still prefer the 740's conventional fuel infrastructure.

The 2026 BMW i7 is a substantially stronger product than its predecessor. 

The battery upgrade to 112.5 kWh and the switch to all-wheel drive on the base 50 xDrive address the two most frequent feedback points from the outgoing model. The 727 km WLTP range removes range anxiety as a practical concern for most buyers. 

The M70 xDrive adds a performance option that positions the i7 at the very top of the electric luxury sedan performance hierarchy in India, and the Neue Klasse inspired cabin makes the interior one of the most technologically advanced in any production car currently on sale here.

The i7 50 xDrive is priced identically to the petrol 740, which is an important statement of intent. For buyers with home or workplace charging access, the i7 now makes a stronger all-round case than its petrol sibling at the same price.

7 airbags versus the EQS's 9, low ground clearance that demands care on poor urban roads, and real-world urban range that will fall below the WLTP figure are few of the caveats. Additionally, the M70 xDrive, while compelling on paper, comes as a fully imported CBU with correspondingly higher on-road costs. 

However, as a complete electric flagship package, the 2026 i7 makes a very solid argument.
