Toyota Fortuner Flex Fuel Concept Returns At GIIAS 2026 With E100 Bioethanol Engine

Toyota showcased the Fortuner Flex Fuel Concept at the 2026 Indonesia Motor Show, giving another look at how its popular SUV could run on cleaner fuel. Notably, this concept first appeared at GIIAS 2023, making this its second public showing.
Alongside it was a B50 biodiesel-powered Fortuner. Neither is in mass production yet, but with India's ethanol push gaining momentum, an Indian rollout looks increasingly likely.
What's Under The Bonnet
The Fortuner Flex Fuel swaps its conventional fuel system for one built around 100% bioethanol (E100). Toyota has reworked the 2.7-litre petrol engine's fuel lines, hose pipes, engine head, and related components to handle ethanol's more corrosive nature. The result is 161 bhp and 243 Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels.
The B50 biodiesel variant sticks with the familiar 2.8-litre diesel paired with an AWD system, putting out 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. It also gets a 48V mild-hybrid system to improve efficiency and cut emissions. Exterior and interior changes on both variants remain unchanged from the standard Fortuner.

Expected India Launch
Toyota has no confirmed timeline for either concept going into production. However, the company is already running a flex fuel pilot in India with the Innova Hycross, and the ministry of road transport included E100 in official testing and certification standards in April 2026.
The Fortuner FFV is "highly likely a few months down the line," contingent on pilot outcomes. Toyota's broader strategy leans on multiple fuel paths, including strong hybrids, hydrogen, and flex fuel, rather than betting entirely on battery-electric vehicles.
