Renault has launched the Triber Turbo, bringing a turbo-petrol engine to its seven-seat MPV for the first time. Prices start at Rs 7.84 lakh and go up to Rs 8.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The new version is offered in Evolution, Techno and Emotion variants.

The biggest change is the new powertrain, but Renault has also made several changes underneath the body. The Triber now uses Renault’s new Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP), which makes its India debut with this model.

Renault says the new architecture has been developed for future mobility requirements and multiple powertrain solutions, while also improving performance and ride and handling.

All prices are ex-showroom. The dual-tone paint option costs an additional Rs 21,000 on the applicable variant.

The Turbo versions cost Rs 94,000 to Rs 1.11 lakh more than the corresponding naturally aspirated variants.

New 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine

Renault Triber Turbo Engine View

The Renault Triber Turbo gets Renault’s TCe 100 turbo-petrol engine producing 100 PS and 180 Nm. It is paired with an all-new Renault Engine Management System (R-EMS) designed to optimise performance, responsiveness and efficiency.

The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox at launch and is claimed to complete the 0-100kmph sprint in 10.8 seconds.

Mileage wise, Renault claims a 21kmpl figure for the Triber Turbo. A CVT automatic is expected to join the range later, while a CNG version has also been planned.

What has changed under the skin

Renault has made several chassis and control-system changes to handle the additional performance to the Triber. It gets revised suspension tuning, front and rear anti-roll bars, a new thermal management system and structural enhancements. Braking performance has also been improved.

The ABS, traction control and vehicle dynamic control systems have been retuned specifically for the turbo-petrol version.

Triber Turbo Design, Interior and Safety

The Triber Turbo looks identical to the naturally aspirated version, with no exterior design changes. It retains the LED headlamps and DRLs, 15-inch dual-tone wheel covers, roof rails and connected LED tail-lamps. The only visual distinction is the ‘TURBO’ badge on the tailgate.

The interior and feature list are also unchanged. It continues with the 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charger, automatic climate control and cruise control.

Safety-wise, the Triber Turbo gets six airbags and 21 safety features as standard. Depending on the variant, it also gets front parking sensors, a rear-view camera with guidelines and a TPMS.

Triber Turbo Rivals

The Triber sits in the compact MPV segment, with the Nissan Gravite among its direct rivals.
