Record-Breaking Car Sales on Day 1 of GST 2.0

The rollout of GST 2.0 on September 22, 2025, coinciding with the festive season of Navratri, created a surge in India’s automotive market. Reduced GST rates, particularly for small cars, made vehicles more affordable and encouraged consumers to act immediately.
On the first day of the new regime, major automakers saw unprecedented demand. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, and CARS24 reported record-breaking sales figures and bookings. "The response from customers has been phenomenal -- something we have not seen in the last 35 years. On the very first day, we recorded 80,000 enquiries," Maruti's Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, Partho Banerjee,
Maruti Suzuki reported 30,000 car deliveries, marking its highest single-day performance in 35 years. Since announcing price reductions on September 18, the company received 75,000 bookings, averaging 15,000 per day a 50% increase over normal numbers.
Hyundai Motor India achieved 11,000 dealer billings on Day 1, its best single-day performance in the past five years. The brand’s popular models experienced high demand thanks to the GST price cuts.
Tata Motors delivered 10,000 cars and received inquiries for 25,000 others. The strong interest was particularly visible for models like the Punch and Nexon, reflecting the pent-up demand in the market.
CARS 24, a leading pre-owned car platform, witnessed a 400% increase in deliveries by 2 PM on Day 1, the highest in four years. They also conducted over 5,000 vehicle inspections in a single day, signaling a notable boost in the pre-owned segment.
