After showcasing it at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki has officially confirmed the launch of the e Vitara - its first EV, for December 2025 in India.
its production in Gujarat already fuels strong export numbers, with over 7,000 units shipped abroad.
Design and Features
The e Vitara builds on the popular Vitara's rugged crossover look but goes electric with an EV-dedicated HEARTECT-e platform, co-developed alongside Toyota.
Measuring about 4.2 metres long with a 2,700mm wheelbase, it offers ample space for families in a compact footprint. Inside, buyers get a modern cabin with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.1-inch digital driver's display, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration.
Comfort features include ventilated front seats, a fixed panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a Harman Kardon-sourced audio setup.
Standard safety features are likely to include ESC (Electronic Stability Control), seven airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, tyre pressure monitoring, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold function. The platform uses over 50 per cent high-tensile steel for better crash protection, plus an e-Call emergency feature.
Higher variants will feature Level 2 ADAS, with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. A 360-degree camera and blind-spot monitoring round out the package, making it a strong choice for both city and highway drives.

Maruti e Vitara Range and Battery Specs
Maruti is expected to offer two battery sizes at launch - a 49kWh pack producing 144 HP and 189Nm of torque in front-wheel drive, delivering around 344km on the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) cycle. The larger 61kWh option steps up to 174 HP in front-wheel-drive guise, claiming over 500km on India's ARAI test cycle, or 428km WLTP.
For those needing extra grip, an all-wheel-drive variant with the 61kWh battery pack is likely to be launched at a later date. This drivetrain adds a rear motor for a combined 184 HP and 300Nm, though range dips to 394km WLTP. All models hit 0-100km/h in under nine seconds. Fast charging supports 20-80% in about 30 minutes on a 150kW DC setup, while a portable home charger will be included as standard with professional installation.
Where is the Maruti e Vitara Manufactured?
Production of the e Vitara has been ongoing at Maruti's new Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, which opened in late August 2025 and doubles as a hub for hybrid battery components. This plant not only serves India but also exports models via the nearby Pipavav Port. Since its production began, Maruti has dispatched over 7,000 units in the first few months, including 2,900 in August and more than 3,000 in September alone.
These exports head to 12 European markets like the UK, Germany, Norway, France, and the Netherlands, with plans to reach over 100 countries, including Japan. This early success, ahead of the home launch, highlights the e Vitara’s appeal in mature international markets hungry for affordable EVs.

Maruti e Vitara Expected Price
Priced to compete in the midsize electric SUV segment, the e Vitara should start around ₹18.00 lakh for the base 49kWh battery pack variant, going up to ₹25.00 lakh for the top-end 61kWh all-wheel-drive trims, ex-showroom. Official figures are expected to be revealed on launch in early December.
These early estimates position it against strong contenders like the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and the MG ZS EV. Maruti's vast dealer and service network advantage could make the e Vitara a popular offering in this segment.
