Hyundai to Expand Midsize SUV Lineup with Bayon-Based Model this Festive Season

Hyundai India will introduce a new midsize SUV during the upcoming festive season. The announcement was made by the company’s MD and CEO, Tarun Garg, during the Q1 FY27 earnings call.
The upcoming model, codenamed BC4i, is based on the Bayon crossover sold in global markets. It will sit below the Creta in Hyundai’s SUV line-up and is expected to measure around 4.18 metres in length.

Test mules of the new SUV have already been spotted on Indian and international roads. From the camouflaged prototypes, it appears to feature a split-headlamp design, dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails and a rising window line. All-wheel disc brakes are also expected.

Under the bonnet, Hyundai is likely to offer the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine currently used in the Creta. This unit is expected to come with a manual or CVT gearbox.
A CNG version with underbody-mounted tanks is also on the cards, which would make it one of the first CNG models above four metres in Hyundai’s range. Fortunately, unlike some rivals, it is expected to retain a spare wheel.
The new SUV will give Hyundai a second product in the midsize segment, similar to how Maruti Suzuki has both the Victoris and Grand Vitara. While this model focuses on more economical powertrains, the next-generation Creta due in 2027 will offer a wider choice including hybrids.
