This year’s Dhanteras turned into a celebration for India’s car industry, with every major automaker recording strong numbers. The blend of festive enthusiasm, fresh GST 2.0 tax reforms, and pent-up demand created the perfect storm for a record-breaking weekend. For many buyers, it wasn’t just about buying a car; it was about marking the occasion with something meaningful and financially smart.
Maruti Suzuki led the charge, delivering more than 50,000 vehicles over the two-day Dhanteras period, up sharply from last year’s 41,500 units. The company’s showrooms were packed across the country, with waiting lines stretching late into the evening.
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, said
the team was thrilled to achieve its all-time highest Dhanteras performance, adding that daily bookings had crossed 14,000 units. The Baleno, Brezza, and Swift continued to dominate Maruti’s sales charts, while newer models like the Fronx and Grand Vitara drew strong interest from younger, tech-savvy customers.
Hyundai Motor India followed closely with around 14,000 deliveries, representing nearly 20 percent growth compared to last year. The Creta and Venue once again proved to be the company’s volume drivers, while the recently launched Exter added extra sparkle to the lineup.
Tata Motors also enjoyed a stellar run, delivering more than 25,000 cars during the combined Dhanteras–Diwali period, reflecting close to 30 percent growth year-on-year. Demand was especially strong for models like the Nexon, Punch, and Tiago EV, which appealed to both traditional and electric vehicle buyers.
The Dhanteras rush wasn’t limited to showrooms alone. Across retail categories, consumer spending surged. Electronics, jewellery, and appliances all saw record footfalls, with overall festive sales estimated to be nearly 50 percent higher than last year. For the auto industry alone, single-day vehicle deliveries reportedly crossed the 100,000-unit mark, generating an estimated revenue of nearly ₹10,000 crore.
