Yamaha EC-06 Launched at ₹1.68 Lakh

Yamaha has introduced its first electric scooter in India, the EC-06, in partnership with Bengaluru-based startup River Mobility. This model is inspired by the River Indie, but offers a unique style and premium touches. It targets city riders who want a blend of performance and efficiency. The launch highlights Yamaha's push into the EV space with local manufacturing.

The Yamaha EC-06 sports a sleek and sharp look, different from the boxier River Indie. It features a vertical dual-pod LED headlight for a modern front-end look, angular body panels, and a slim rear for a sporty feel. The scooter currently only comes in a single Bluish White colour and weighs 132 kg, making it lighter and more agile for urban use. It gets 24.5 litres of space under the seat and a small front cubby.

The EC-06 is well-equipped with features. It gets three riding modes - Eco for range, Standard for balance, and Power for speed. A reverse mode helps in tight spots. The colour LCD shows key info like speed and battery level. Bluetooth connectivity through the Y-Connect app allows ride tracking and alerts. Other additions include keyless start and LED lights all around.

This electric scooter uses a 4 kWh battery and a motor with 6.7 kW power and 26 Nm torque, reaching a top speed of 79 kmph and offering a 169 km range on a full charge. Charging from 0-80% takes eight hours through a standard plug. Yamaha is offering a three-year warranty on the battery. Suspension duties are handled by front forks and a rear monoshock, and brakes are disc units on both wheels with a combined system. The EC-06 rides on 14-inch wheels with tubeless tyres.

Priced at ₹1.68 lakh (ex-showroom), the Yamaha EC-06 costs more than the River Indie, thanks to its premium branding. Sales start in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu through select Yamaha dealers. It will rival the likes of the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, and the Bajaj Chetak.
