Petrol holds 90.68% of two-wheeler sales, down from 93.67% in May 2025. That 3-percentage-point decline has largely gone to EVs, which now account for 9.25% of the market.

TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Ather 450 follow closely, each benefiting from expanding dealer networks beyond major metro cities.

The growth of electric two-wheelers is now more retail-driven than subsidy-driven. With FAME II benefits largely phased out, buyers are increasingly choosing EVs because of their lower operating costs, around ₹1 to ₹1.5 per km compared to ₹3 to ₹4 per km for petrol-powered bikes.

On the petrol side, the market continues to be dominated by Hero Splendor and HF Deluxe in the entry-level motorcycle segment, while Honda Activa remains the leading scooter.

These models are not experiencing declining sales volumes, rather, their growth rate is slower than that of EVs.

CNG remains almost negligible at 0.07% market share. Bajaj’s CNG motorcycles are still too new and have limited availability, preventing them from making a meaningful impact so far.

However, this could change over the next year as Bajaj expands its CNG distribution network.
