Updated on March 5, 2026

Mercedes-Benz has reintroduced the V-Class in India after a four-year gap. Available in ELWB configuration (5370 mm long, 3430 mm wheelbase the longest in any Mercedes car in India), it's locally assembled at the Chakan plant to keep pricing competitive.

Offered in two variants with petrol and diesel options, it focuses on first-class comfort for up to six passengers, advanced tech like MBUX, and refined driving dynamics.

Deliveries start by end of March 2026. It's essentially a refreshed W447 V-Class with exterior/interior upgrades, new engine choices, and India-first Airmatic suspension for superior ride quality on our roads—targeting high-net-worth individuals, corporates, and families seeking upscale MPV luxury.

engine and performance

The V-Class offers two refined 2.0-litre engines: the V 220 d diesel producing 233 bhp and 500 Nm, and the V 250 petrol mild-hybrid with 228 bhp + 20 bhp boost and 400 Nm. Both pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive for smooth, responsive performance 0-100 kmph in around 8-9 seconds with composed highway cruising.

The diesel excels in low-end torque for effortless city driving, while the mild-hybrid petrol adds efficiency with electric assist. NVH is low with excellent insulation, and the suspension ensures a plush ride. Real-world mileage expected around 10-12 kmpl diesel refined, powerful, and suited for luxury MPV duties without sporty pretensions.

interior

The cabin is opulent with high-quality Nappa leather upholstery, soft-touch surfaces, and 64-colour ambient lighting creating a lounge-like atmosphere. Front seats are powered with memory, heating, and ventilation, while the second row features individual captain seats with ottomans, massage function, and powered adjustments. It is available is 4-or-6-seater configurations

The third row is foldable for flexibility. Infotainment is handled by the latest MBUX system with dual 12.3-inch screens (touchscreen + digital cluster), supporting wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, voice control, and connected services. Rear entertainment includes optional screens, and Burmester 3D surround sound elevates the audio experience making long journeys feel like first-class travel with thoughtful luxury touches.

Comfort is paramount with Airmatic air suspension adjusting ride height for a plush experience over bumps or highways. Four-zone climate control, rear sunblinds, and individual reading lights ensure passenger pampering. Convenience features include keyless entry, powered sliding doors/tailgate, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, multiple USB-C ports, and a cooled glovebox.

The ELWB layout offers ample legroom/headroom across rows, with easy access and storage solutions like cupholders and trays. It's designed for chauffeur-driven luxury but drives well self quiet cabin, effortless ergonomics, and thoughtful touches like heated steering making it supremely convenient for daily or long-distance use.

exterior

The V-Class features a sleek, elongated design with AMG Line exterior as standard, including a star-studded grille with LED surround, multi-beam LED headlamps, sporty bumpers, and two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels for a dynamic, premium look. The ELWB body spans 5370 mm, with sliding electric doors on both sides for easy access and a powered tailgate at the rear.

LED adaptive headlights, connected LED taillights, and chrome accents on window lines add elegance. Protective side sills and skid plates provide subtle ruggedness without compromising the van's luxurious profile. It's available in sophisticated colours like Obsidian Black, Polar White, and Selenite Grey exuding understated presence suitable for discreet executive or family travel, with a drag-efficient shape aiding efficiency.

safety

The V-Class is equipped with up to 9 airbags, PRE-SAFE system pre-tensioning belts in crashes, electronic stability control, and hill-start assist. Level 2 ADAS includes adaptive cruise with stop-go, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and traffic sign recognition. A 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert add caution.

The rigid body with high-strength steel and active safety aids provide comprehensive protection making it one of the safest MPVs for family or executive use on Indian roads.

competition

The V-Class rivals the Toyota Vellfire for Japanese reliability and hybrid efficiency in a similar luxury MPV space. The Lexus LM offers even more opulence with premium branding with MG M9 as its all-electric rival

Kia Carnival provides value with spacious interiors and features at lower pricing. Mercedes' own EQV (if launched) could compete as an electric alternative.
