The Kia Sonet was a popular small SUV in the Indian market. It remained on sale from 2020 until early 2024. During its time, the price of this car ranged from Rs. 7.79 lakh to Rs. 14.89 lakh. It came with different engine options, including a 1.0-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Kia decided to discontinue this specific version because it did not meet the updated government safety and crash test norms. To stay current, the brand launched an updated version on 12 January 2024. This new model replaced the older one with better features and updated safety tech.

While you can no longer buy it new, the car is still common in the used market. It is known for being a reliable vehicle for city driving and small families.

Engine and Performance

The Kia Sonet offered three different engine options to suit every type of buyer in India. The first was a simple 1.2-litre petrol engine that gave 83 PS of power. For those who wanted more speed, the car came with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that made 120 PS. There was also a 1.5-litre diesel engine that was very popular for its great mileage and good highway speed. This model featured many gearbox choices like a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, and a 6-speed automatic transmission. It even had a 6-speed iMT which allowed gear shifts without using a clutch pedal. For the turbo petrol engine, Kia provided a quick 7-speed DCT gearbox. These various engine and gearbox combinations made the Kia Sonet a very useful car for both city traffic and long family trips.

interior

The Kia Sonet had a very modern cabin for its time. This model offered many new features that Indian buyers liked. It came with a 10.25-inch touchscreen for music and maps. The car also had front ventilated seats to keep the driver cool in hot weather. Inside, you could find an electric sunroof and a Bose sound system with 7 speakers. The dashboard looked clean and used good materials. It had an air purifier with a display to show air quality. For storage, it provided 392 liters of boot space. The back seat was okay for two adults but felt tight for three. Passengers got rear AC vents and USB charging ports. This car focused on comfort and technology. It made every drive easy for the family. The layout was simple to use while driving. It was a popular choice for city users.

exterior

The Kia Sonet was a small SUV measuring 3,995 mm in length and 1,790 mm in width. This model had a high ground clearance of 205 mm, which helped it drive over bad roads easily. At the front, it had a large grille and sharp LED headlights. These lights had a special heartbeat shape. The car used 16-inch alloy wheels in the top models. On the sides, there were silver roof rails and black plastic around the wheel arches. The back of the car had LED tail lights connected by a long light bar. Many versions came with a sunroof and chrome door handles. This model was available in bright colors like Red and Blue. You could also get it with a black roof for a two-tone look. Its compact size made it very easy to park in crowded city areas.

competition

The Kia Sonet faced strong competition in the small SUV market. Its closest rival was the Hyundai Venue, as both cars used similar engines and parts. Other top competitors included the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Tata Nexon, which were very popular with Indian families. The Mahindra XUV300 also fought for the same buyers by offering good cabin space and safety features. Some buyers looked at the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger because those cars cost less money. This model competed in a busy space where every brand tried to offer more for less. The Kia Sonet had to match the prices of these other SUVs, which usually ranged from 7 lakh to 15 lakh rupees. Many rivals also offered petrol and diesel engines to attract different types of drivers. This car had to work hard to stay popular in such a crowded market.
