Audi SQ8 Overview

Audi India is bringing the Audi SQ8 as a performance focused addition to its Q8 lineup, with launch confirmed for March 17, 2026. This mid spec variant bridges the gap between the standard Q8 and the extreme RS Q8, offering V8 power in a more accessible package, likely as a CBU import for limited volumes. It is built on the MLB Evo platform and focuses on dynamic driving with quattro AWD and adaptive suspension for confident highway cruising and sharp cornering. Premium features such as matrix LED lights, a large touchscreen infotainment system, and Level 2 ADAS are expected. With no diesel or hybrid planned for India, it delivers pure petrol performance with everyday usability in the premium SUV space.
engine and performance
The India spec SQ8 will be powered by a 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 petrol engine producing 507hp and 770Nm. It is paired with an 8 speed automatic gearbox and Audi’s quattro all wheel drive system for strong traction and seamless power delivery. The SUV can sprint from 0 to 100kph in just 4.1 seconds, making it seriously quick for its size. Adaptive air suspension allows drivers to switch between comfort and sport oriented settings. While there is no hybrid assistance, features like cylinder deactivation help improve efficiency, with real world fuel economy expected to be around 8 to 10 kmpl. The engine promises strong mid range pull and smooth refinement, making it both thrilling and usable.
interior
Inside, the SQ8 blends luxury with sporty detailing. The cabin is expected to feature an all black theme with red contrast stitching, S embossed sport seats with heating and ventilation, and premium materials such as Alcantara and carbon fibre inserts. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster and a large MMI touchscreen handle most controls and connected features. Rear seat space remains generous for five occupants, with ample legroom and headroom, along with a practical boot that expands when the rear seats are folded. Features like multi zone climate control, ambient lighting, and a Bang and Olufsen sound system in higher variants add to the premium feel. It balances comfort and performance focus for both daily commutes and long highway drives.
exterior
The SQ8 stands out with sporty styling that clearly separates it from the standard Q8. It features a blacked out Singleframe grille, an aggressive front bumper with larger air intakes, and sleek matrix LED headlights. Along the side, you get S specific 21 or 22 inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, black window surrounds, and subtle side skirts that give it a lower and wider stance. At the rear, quad exhaust tips and connected LED tail lamps add to its strong road presence. Measuring close to five metres in length, it retains practicality with high ground clearance suited to Indian roads. The overall look is muscular yet refined, with S badges and optional black styling elements enhancing its performance appeal.
competition
The SQ8 will sit between the standard Q8 and the RS Q8 in Audi’s range. Key rivals include the BMW X5 M60i, Mercedes AMG GLE 53, and Porsche Cayenne S. It may also attract buyers considering luxury focused SUVs like the Lexus LX. With its V8 engine and quattro system, the SQ8 aims to offer a balanced mix of performance, luxury, and everyday practicality for buyers who want speed without going to the extreme end of the segment.
