The Tata Sierra arrives with the kind of excitement we rarely see in this segment, especially at an introductory price of 11.49 lakh. It feels fresh, confident and genuinely different from the usual midsize SUVs. The cabin has a warmth and openness that immediately makes you feel at ease, and the space on offer gives it an inviting personality.

New engines, a long features list and thoughtful comfort touches show that Tata has tried to make the Sierra more than just another rival. With all this, it steps up directly against the Hyundai Creta model, setting the stage for a very real showdown.

Interior

The Tata Sierra immediately feels more upmarket once you step in. The design uses lighter colours, modern surfaces and a three screen layout in higher trims, but even the lower variants benefit from a cabin that feels fresher and more premium than what Tata has offered before.

Materials feel well chosen, panel gaps have improved and the overall ambience is airy. The biggest advantage is space. The Sierra offers proper knee room, good shoulder space and surprisingly generous headroom even with the panoramic sunroof. Seat cushioning is soft on first touch with firmer support beneath, so long drives should be comfortable.

The boot is another highlight. Tata claims 622 litres, which is significantly higher than Creta’s 433 litres and even larger than competing midsize SUVs. The shape is wide and deep, and the rear seats fold to unlock a massive 1,257 litres.

The Creta  feels neat and functional but simpler. Plastics are durable but not premium. You still get rear AC vents, a comfortable seating position and a cabin that remains one of the most ergonomic in the class, but the sense of richness is not present in this entry variant. The Sierra moves ahead on perceived quality, space and special touches.

Exterior

The Tata Sierra’s exterior deserves real attention because it is one of the few SUVs that instantly stands out without trying too hard. The shape is upright and confident, almost nostalgic, yet every surface feels modern and purposeful. The tall bonnet gives it a planted look, the wide LED signature stretches across the front, and the clean surfacing makes the body feel premium even in the trim.

The rear has a strong, almost sculpted stance with a full width light bar that adds a sense of width. What really lifts the Sierra is the way Tata has avoided unnecessary clutter.

Even the flush door handles make it feel like a more expensive SUV. Compared to the Creta which looks neat but conventional, the Sierra carries a bolder personality that turns heads simply because it looks different in a segment filled with safe and predictable designs.

The Hyundai Creta keeps things clean, friendly and familiar, which is exactly why so many buyers gravitate toward it. The design is smoother and more rounded than the Sierra, with a front that carries Hyundai’s signature lighting layout and a body that feels well balanced from every angle.

Even without the fancier LED elements or alloys of the higher variants, the Creta still looks cohesive and modern. The proportions work well, giving it a tidy urban presence that feels approachable rather than imposing. It may not grab attention the way the Sierra does, but it wins with a design that feels refined, easy to live with and instantly recognisable on the road.

Tata claims a turning diameter of 10.6 metres and an off road friendly setup including 205 mm ground clearance, 450 mm water wading and approach, departure and breakover angles of 26.5, 31.6 and 23.1 degrees. The platform is future ready for hybrid, CNG and even all wheel drive, which Tata has hinted will arrive later.

Engine and Performance

Tata has introduced two new petrol engines and one diesel for the Sierra. The base motor is a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol with 106 hp and 145 Nm. It comes with a six speed manual or a seven speed dual clutch automatic. Power is slightly lower than the Creta’s 115 hp, but torque is similar.

The turbo petrol option is the exciting one. The 1.5 litre direct injection engine makes 160 hp and 255 Nm and is paired with a six speed automatic. This puts it directly against the Creta N Line and other high performance midsize SUVs. For users who travel long distances, the Sierra also offers a 1.5 litre diesel producing 118 hp and 280 Nm with both manual and automatic choices.

The Creta base E variant is offered only with the 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115 PS and 143.8 Nm. It is refined and reliable but does not offer the performance variety that the Sierra brings. The Sierra also gains an edge with features like frequency dependent dampers for better comfort and optional terrain modes.

Safety

Tata continues to focus heavily on safety. The Sierra includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold, ISOFIX mounts, 360 degree camera in higher trims and even Level 2 ADAS depending on variant. The structure itself is built with a strong emphasis on crash protection and stability.

The Creta base E also offers a respectable safety package with ESC, VSM, hill start assist, ISOFIX, rear parking sensors and a strong body structure. However, the Sierra adds a broader set of active features in its upper variants and is likely to have a stronger safety orientation overall.

Price

sierra vs creta rear

The Tata Sierra has been launched at an aggressive starting price of Rs 11.49 lakh ex showroom India. For what it offers in design, features, space and powertrain options, the pricing is surprisingly competitive. The Creta base E variant starts at Rs 10.73 lakh ex showroom, making it slightly cheaper, but the Sierra delivers more value for the small additional premium.
