The Tata Sierra's official ARAI mileage figures are finally out. These numbers came to light through an RTI query filed by Vahan Warta on X, months after the vehicle's launch in November 2025.
According to the data shared by ARAI, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (Hyperion) variant delivers 13.5 kmpl, while the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel (Kryojet) version offers a more impressive 18.8 kmpl.
The entry-level 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is yet to receive an ARAI certification.

The Tata Sierra comes with three engine choices - a 104 bhp naturally aspirated petrol, a 158 bhp turbo-petrol unit that produces 255 Nm of torque, and a 116 bhp turbo-diesel engine offering 260-280 Nm torque, depending on the gearbox.

Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, along with automatic options like the 7-speed DCA or 6-speed torque converter.
Stronger fuel efficiency figures were expected from the turbo-petrol model, especially after Tata claimed a 29.9 kmpl figure during a special 12-hour controlled test at the NATRAX proving ground in Indore.

However, that was not an ARAI-certified test under standard conditions. In real-world terms, the official 13.5 kmpl makes the turbo-petrol one of the most fuel-guzzling options in its segment.
For someone covering about 1,500 km a month, the extra fuel cost on the turbo-petrol could add up to ₹3,200-3,800 every month, depending on current fuel prices. Over five years, this gap could become quite significant, making the diesel variants a more sensible choice.
