Renault's Upcoming 3-Row SUV Could Be Called Bigster or Boreal

Quick Read - Renault is testing a larger SUV believed to be the Duster's three-row sibling. The prototype features chunky bumpers, roof rails and a substantial rear section. It could arrive in India in 2027, with turbo-petrol and strong-hybrid engine options expected.

Renault is preparing to expand its Indian SUV line-up beyond the new Duster with a larger model expected to offer three rows of seating. The SUV has been associated with the international Bigster and Boreal models, although its final name for India remains unconfirmed.

Spy images of a camouflaged test vehicle, originally shared online in mid 2025, offer some clues about its exterior design. It provides a useful look at the SUV that Renault is expected to bring to India.

What Do the Spy Shots Reveal?

The test mule appears closer to the larger Bigster or Boreal-style SUV than the regular five-seat Duster. At the front, a narrow upper lighting section sits above a wide lower grille, while vertical housings are visible near the bumper corners. The camouflage, however, conceals much of the final design.

The rear section looks fairly substantial, with a prominent spoiler, a sharply angled rear windscreen and chunky bumper cladding.

A brief glimpse through the side window reveals part of the dashboard, but there is not enough visible detail to confirm the cabin layout or third-row seating. The apparent length at the rear supports the three-row SUV theory, although the images alone cannot establish its exact identity.

Expected Engines and Launch Timeline

The larger SUV is expected to sit above the Duster in Renault's Indian line-up and could arrive in 2027. A 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.8-litre strong-hybrid powertrain have been discussed in connection with the model, though that remains a speculation.

Once launched, the SUV could compete with three-row models such as the Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV 7XO. Pricing, the final model name and the launch date are yet to be announced.
