Mitsubishi Teases All-New Pajero, Set for 2026 Return

Mitsubishi has officially confirmed the return of the iconic Mitsubishi Pajero, with the all-new generation set to make its global debut in autumn 2026.

The legendary off-roader, which was discontinued in 2021 after nearly four decades of production, will return as Mitsubishi’s new flagship SUV and continue its legacy of rugged capability and adventure-focused engineering.

The upcoming Pajero will be built on the ladder-frame platform shared with the Mitsubishi Triton, although Mitsubishi says it will feature a unique cabin design along with specially developed front and rear suspension systems.

Mitsubishi describes it as a “cross-country SUV”, highlighting its focus on off-road performance while also aiming to deliver improved ride comfort and refinement.

Teaser images reveal a bold new front-end design featuring distinctive vertical LED lighting elements and a more muscular stance.

Reports suggest the SUV could use the Triton’s twin-turbo diesel engine, while hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains may join the lineup later. Mitsubishi has not yet confirmed market-specific launch plans, though the SUV is being developed as a global model.

In some regions, including the United States, the Pajero has historically been sold as the Montero.

Despite the popularity it enjoyed in India before the Toyota Fortuner's arrival, a return to India for the Pajero is currently not on the cards. Even if the SUV does make its way here, it would be through the CBU route.

This would make it significantly more expensive (expect around Rs 60-65 lakh ex-showroom) than it already would have been if it was locally manufactured here (assuming Rs 35-50 lakh ex-showroom).
